Same principle as polarizing sunglasses??? I don't think so?

Could we get a reference for that 'fact' or remove it? *As far as I know*, scrims do not operate in this fashion. They simply block light.

• • It seems to me the author may have gotten confused with grids that go on reflectors, etc. Scrims do not polarise light at all, in fact, they have the opposite effect. Limited lifespan for scrims?

Scrims having wire mesh appear to have limited lifespans because they are exposed for prolonged periods of time to very hot light.

Does anybody know if scrims cost more depending on the kind of wire mesh they are equipped with? Does an aluminum mesh cost less than a stainless steel mesh?

Is the lifespan of a typical scrim limited more on account of their fragility (that is, their tendency to get bent up and twisted) than the possibility the very high temperatures cause them to oxidize?

I've never seen a scrim which has had significant problems, despite high hours of usage. They generally tend to be of a fine weave and have no requirements other than to just sit there, so it's difficult to imagine them getting bent, twisted, or just "not working". In fact, the caption to that picture led me to this article, to find out what in the world "scrim lighting" was!

I think the image from Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour would fit very well in the section "Theatre".

Origin of the name

It would seem proper to include an explanation of where the name "scrim" has originated.

I guess it came from a combination of "screen" and "dim", but that’s just a guess. Also interesting would be an (approximate) time when it was first used. Is anyone knowledgeable in the field interested to add this info? Geke (talk) 13:05, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
