I reverted (and moved) the campground sentence. A good deal of the range is not wilderness, so there are plenty of places where there could be developed campgrounds; the Forest Service chooses not to put one in. Merging Sandia Crest

I originally created Sandia Crest separately, but I don't think there's much point in having it separate. So I propose merging it into here. -- Spireguy 18:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Good work, Spireguy. I went to the old page and the "what links here." I started deleting / changing the links to "Sandia Crest," but then I got worried I was doing the wrong thing. The links to Sandia Crest should be changed to point to Sandia Mountains, i.e. [[Sandia Mountains|Sandia Crest]]. Actually I should have done that already; thanks for taking that on. The page Sandia Crest should definitely stay, as a redirect, since that would be a natural search term. -- Spireguy 19:57, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

word "sandia" usage

I deleted the sentence "However in recent times the name Sandia is used only for the watermelon color of the mountains and not for the squash." (1.) A sandia is not a squash, it is a melon. (2.) All of the Spanish-English dictionaries that I consulted, Cassell's (1978), American Heritage (2001), and Velázquez (1973), indicated that "sandia" meant watermelon and none mentioned the color. Velázquez (1973) went so far as to specify watermelon Curcurbita citrullus, although watermelons are now classified as Citrullus lanatus, family Cucurbitaceae. Cobos, Rubén (2003) A Dictionary of New Mexico & Southern Colorado Spanish (2nd ed.) Museum of New Mexico Press, Santa Fe, New Mexico ISBN 0890134529, does not mention the word "sandia". (3.) Annual Rainfall Addition

More recent dates for the average rainfall and snowfall should be included in this article. Why should the rainfall and snowfall be included? As of today the article only includes the averages of both snowfall and rainfall dating back to 1953-1979, while those methods used back then might have been more detailed/used a more precise method of collecting information about the rainfall and snowfall, in 2017 the average rainfall and snowfall seem to be significantly less than in the 1950-1980s. This information should be more recent to help more recent/concurrent visiters reading this article. Average rainfal as of 2017 19.92 inches. Average snowfall as of 2017 59 inches.

More information is availble through that link, i am not as experienced as some of the more prominent editors so i do not know how to edit the charts nor want to change the information there as it seems to be pretty tidy.
