Pam Foley party affiliation edit
User:Star Garnet first added the party affiliations in the table in August 2019, and since then the page has listed Pam Foley as independent.
I can't find any public sources that list her party affiliation, but I have access to voter data and can confirm that she's registered as a Democrat. I don't believe that can be used as a reference on Wikipedia, so what's the proper way to handle this? Sjedits (talk) 22:17, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Because San Jose has a weak mayor form of government, city council is the government and it doesn't make sense to have two separate articles. As it currently stands the articles convey more or less the same information.
Of the 20 largest US cities, most are strong mayor governments where the mayor heads a separate executive branch, so it makes sense that "Government of" and "City Council" articles are separate. Of those with a weak mayor system, all but two are just single articles Phoenix City Council, San Antonio City Council, Austin City Council, Charlotte City Council, and Denver City Council. Fort Worth, Texas doesn't have any separate articles about its government at all. Government of Dallas and Dallas City Council both exist, but Dallas is unusual in that it has its own court system, something most US cities don't have.
I have no idea if this merge would be controversial so I'm posting this per WP:MERGEPROP. Sjedits (talk) 08:53, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- I would be more in favor of expanding the Government article to include more info on other governance within San Jose (i.e. city managers; federal and state representatives; public agencies like SJPD or San José Public Library; etc). Despite using the weak mayor system, I think there is still a meaningful distinction between city council and the totality of city government, and given SJ's size and importance, I am in favor of maintaining the articles separate. I support Cristiano's comments and support keeping the articles separate because the City Council and Government are distinct. The Council has 11 elected members who are politicians whereas the government has more than 7000[1] non-political employees. It also makes more sense for election history/information and Council district info to be in this article and not the Government article. Rubydancer (talk) 18:41, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Merge Proposal edit
I propose merging San Jose City Council into Government of San Jose, California. I think the content in the San Jose City Council can easily be explained in the context of the government of San Jose, and a merger would not cause any article-size or weighting problems. It would likely allow for one article to be of higher quality, currently the San Jose City Council page serves as an election roster, while the Government page would benefit from the same information without just repeating it separately and updating separately.
