Surprisingly, considerable effort was invested in improving the English of an anonymous addition without realizing that it claims a death in the future. I couldn't find anything about Samuel Sharpe's descendants on the Web. Jihad edition... edit
Please read the cited work by Afroz (or any of her other intensive works on this subject) and her citations and consider an appropriate clarification - Jihad can be quite peaceful and to associate violence with it stems from misconception - it is simply a struggle and can manifest in a number of ways. It is clearly a misnomer to continue to view the uprising as "Baptist" in light of the arguments Afroz has put forth and justified with her sources. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 169.133.140.5 (talk) 07:16, 26 March 2007 (UTC).
- It would be interesting to know how the Islamic tradition manifested itself in Samuel Sharpe's preaching. If this can be briefly summarised, it should be included in the article. However I was mainly concerned about the rest of Sultana Afroz's assertion about Jihad. As a slave surrounded by appalling conditions, it seems highly likely that the idea of a struggle would have occurred to him from first principles, rather than attributing it to any Islamic tradition or a fatwa. Although she seems to be an established academic, to me it sounded like someone who is over-extending her Islamic analysis, perhaps because of her own faith. JMcC 22:16, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- It is a highly novel thesis. How many scholars in the field feel it has any merit? According to this article, "Afroz's novel theses ... in the hard to find Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs ... [is] an excellent example of how not to reason."
