This article needs considerable updating. It gives the impression that after World War II the town practically ceased to exist, and that all that is left is pitiful remnants. "At present little is left of the town which covered Samarai as it was destroyed during World War II. ... Although Samarai was reestablished after the war, it never returned to its former size or influence..." This is completely untrue. As the article does mention, the town was the provinicial capital until the late 1960s - which alone suggests major redevelopment. I cannot add to the article because my information is based on personal information and experience, but as an indicator, my family lived adjacent Samarai in 1969 and 1970, and it was a very busy, heavily populated and thriving town. Major trade stores (Burns Philip, Steamships) existed, shipping frequently used the ports, and there was a thriving regional commerce. There was little trace of the war damage refered to. Since that time there has been a decline in importance as the new provincial capital Alotau has taken over with major growth in the area, but a glance at a satellite photo would indicate the the island is still a significant town, and still takes up the entire island. Anyone have the resources to update the article? Ptilinopus (talk) 02:38, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 2 external links on Samarai. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
