Sorry, but bolding St.Louis on the Saint Louis dab does not either make sense or match Wiki practice (see the York, Saint John, Saint Paul dabs for example. It might be the biggest city, or the most famous, but then why not bold the Saint, the city was named after? Bridesmill 19:56, 3 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do that if you want, then. The other idea is putting the city link closer to the top (like I have just done....it makes it more consistent with other articles I've seen like Hamilton and Portland). It makes no sense for one of the 2-3 most searched for "Saint Louis"es to only be found as the 18th link down. Kirjtc2 22:47, 3 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that works for me. Thanks Bridesmill 00:32, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does not "Usually refer to Saint Louis, Missouri"

edit

I have, and will continue to, remove this line when placed in this article (as I have seen others do). en:Wikipedia is the English language Wikipedia, NOT the United States Wikipedia. There are more English speakers for whom English is not their native language than the converse, and one can assume, do not think of a city in Missouri above all when searching for this term. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/FAQ#Anglo-American focus and systematic bias and Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias. T L Miles (talk) 15:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd vote that 'Saint Louis' by default go to the King of France, after whom all the rest were named. InfernoXV (talk) 14:57, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • I see from the above discussion that the decision to remove St. Louis, Missouri from a prominent location at the top of the dab page was an action against systemic bias. However, this goes against the entire purpose of disambiguation: to easily allow readers to get to the article they are searching for. The easiest way to determine which article(s) readers intend to reach is through article traffic statistics; St. Louis, Missouri has approximately 70,000 hits per month, and Louis IX of France has about 11,000 hits per month. The statistics of the other entries are negligible. Because traffic statistics indicate that a large majority of readers are aiming to reach the article about the city in Missouri, we need to list it more prominently on this page to aid in their searches. Thus, I added more prominent links to both St. Louis, Missouri and Louis IX of France under the description “often refers to” to accomplish this. All that matters here is what readers who search for St. Louis expect to find; I am all for countering systemic bias, but we should not approach it by making it more difficult for readers to reach the intended article. St. Louis, notice of requested move

edit

Why does St. Louis redirect to St. Louis, Missouri rather than to this dab page? --Una Smith (talk) 14:52, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is a proposal on WP:RM to move St. Louis, Missouri to St. Louis; see Talk:St. Louis, Missouri#Requested move. --Una Smith (talk) 14:52, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

there should be a mention/link to Louis IX of France at the top of page as the man for whom almost all of the others on this page are ultimately named?E.M.Gregory (talk) 22:01, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
