Notability of Internet Archeology, Dump.fm, and V-Files

edit

Ryder Ripps created pages for two of these sites, Internet Archeology and Dump.fm with a self-titled user account. Both were deleted as they were not notable then and their traffic has continued to slide since. The Alexa Rank for Internet Archeology and Dump.fm are both sub-600,000 and for somewhat technical-oriented websites that are for younger audiences, their Alexa Ranks are likely inflated. Similiar Web has Internet Archaeology as having less than 1K visitors / day, which I think is generous. Compete does not rank the site.

Since these websites were deemed unnotable by Wikipedia, which does not have particularly high standards for notability, and nothing has changed since and the traffic to these sites is low, I don not think their is justification for refering to these sites as 'well kown.'

Further, the websites are not institutions, they are casual sites with no drive behind them.

Finally, the Ryder Ripps page was created by the subject in, I think, 2008, and was deleted as unnotable. It re-appeared and was deleted by PROD in either late 2014/early 2015. In its history it has a history Afd notices being deleted without discussion and when any sort of sensible moderation of the page's language are made, these are reverted quickly with very defensive summaries to the edit. I believe Ryder Ripps keep a very close eye on this page and regularly edits it to his liking. Who else would continually revert edits of the page's spurious language under the same New York IP?

Let's assume good faith, please. VQuakr (talk) 05:23, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Note to other editors on Socks and the Subject of Article... The subject of this article is and has been using multiple anonymous IP's and WP:SOCK over the past months (years?) to make non WP:NPOV edits, remove unfavourable information, frequent WP:PUFFERY, self-promotion WP:COI, and repeatedly adding poorly sourced and un WP:RELIABLE information... And then arguing about it. I've reported this and tried to curb the unnecessary editing. One of the subject's socks embarked on a WP:VANDALism campaign of pages I contributed to and created and he received a temporary block. This article also received temporary page protection WP:PROTECT. Further, he's taken to the habit of accusing his accusers of being non-neutral for copping on and keeping his bad WP:COI editing in check. I believe the subject is notable, but this is ongoing disruptive behaviour and is something to be vigilant about. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 12:55, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion

edit

This page should not be "speedy deleted as pure vandalism or a blatant hoax", because the person in question is a notable artist and public figure who is being targeted by internet trolls. They're vandalizing this page in an attempt to discredit and slander Mr Ripps. The page has been a target of vandalism and needs to be cleaned up --Meaningzone (talk) 22:47, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

In 2020, Ripps led the Creative direction for the fifth studio album Miss Anthropocene by Canadian singer songwriter Grimes including - logo design, album and single art, packaging, photography, and merchandise.[citation needed] As a frequent collaborator of James Blake, in 2020 Ripps directed the video for Godspeed and contributed video art for the single Are You Even Real? [citation needed]

These need proper citations, there's a history for self-promotion/advertising/puffery on this page from new and IP accounts. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 02:42, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I looked through the videos and only 'Before' has Ryder Ripps listed in the credits. I will add that one back in although not as a table with it's own section. I'll add that I think the point here is that this page isn't a professional CV for the subject, but rather an encyclopedic entry on the subject's notability. Watch the end of the videos.. they have credits.. also ripps is credited on the actual packaging on the grimes album

NB Instagram is never a reliable source. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 20:01, 4 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Grimes instagram is not a source? What about a music video uploaded by Travis Scott? What is your bone you are trying to pick here? Can you just get to the point of your issues.

The bone has been made abundantly clear: Self promotion (WP:COI), WP:SOCK, WP:RELIABLE, WP:INSTAGRAM. Re: Using Grimes Instagram... Even as a celebrity, I, and I think most editors, would say no way unless the topic is the post itself. Using Grimes's IG to prove something as minor as if say you co-directed something of hers would be a nope. Even that massive stretch is a hypothetical, as the purpose of Wikipedia is not to be a personal website listing every or most jobs you've worked on.
