Controversies

On April 4, 2005 RMIT University appointed a new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner. Having gained a first-class honours degree in Economics and a PhD from the University of Sydney, Professor Gardner has had a prominent career as an academic, working in a number of successful Australian educational institutions.

I've removed the above paragraph from the Controversies section to History because from the text there, there doesn't seem to be anything controversial about the appointment. invincible 06:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Student Life

I don't think Wikipedia is the correct forum for Student Unionists to complain about VSU. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.39.125 (talk) 18:04, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:RMIT.JPG

Image:RMIT.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:47, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

History section

A lot of it is a direct copy and paste from http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=q0dhwbxncmdc which is clearly a copyrighted website. The offending text will need to be removed. It will have to be rewritten in a form as not to infringe copyright. Secondly, it should be backed by secondary reliable sources. For example, I've found no evidence to back the claim of the world's first online PhD [1] Michellecrisp (talk) 03:16, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi I'd like to know why the link to the RMIT Gallery Artabase page has been removed? I think it is useful to have both the link to the RMIT Gallery Artabase page http://artabase.net/gallery/20-rmit-gallery and the link to the RMIT First Site Union Gallery Artabase page http://artabase.net/gallery/157-first-site-rmit-union-gallery replaced. Artabase (talk) 03:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Quite clearly it's a violation of WP:EL#AVOID Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: the link should be directly related to the subject of the article. A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject. and with a username like yours I hope you don't have a conflict of interest. Are all these really worthy of inclusion on this article as claimed in the original heading of being notable? Australian Centre for Human Rights Education Centre for Applied Social Research Centre for Design Design Victoria Financial Markets Trading Simulator International Centre for Environmental and Bioethics International Centre of Graphic Technology Microelectronics and Materials Technology Centre Nautilus Institute @ RMIT RMIT Global Cities Research Institute RMIT Platform Technologies Research Institute RMIT Sustainable Health and Well-Being Research Institute Sir Lawrence Wackett Centre for Aerospace Design Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory Virtual Reality Centre and Digital Gallery Michellecrisp (talk) 07:46, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

There is a copyright infringement on The DrawingSpace, Melbourne. Two contributors continue to put in false information. The DrawingSpace, Melbourne is a registered gallery and does not have any partners. Beautifully presented stuff here, filled with history and photos. Just a disclaimer:

I added the bit about RMIT's financial woes; I am a low-level employee of another university in Melbourne. The information I have added is all on the public record. It should also not be taken as a discouragement to attend RMIT which is, in my opinion, a fine university and one which will continue to operate into the indefinite future. --Robert Merkel 13:17, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

RMIT's financial woes are long gone, with a $50mil surplus in 2007 (See http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=zfq3tjbb7yyu) GSPT1 (talk) 14:08, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

The image File:SalamCafeSeason1SBSEp10.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

'Allegations of religious discrimination'

Is Wikipedia the right place to bring up these allegations? Perhaps the language should be toned down, and/or the 'allegations' be moved to the more appropriate RMIT Spiritual Centre article? - AshGreen (talk), March 30 2009, 05:27 (UTC)

I have moved the information to the more appropriate RMIT Spiritual Centre article. This has seemed to have caused some... concern from a fellow contributor. For the record, I believe the 'allegations of religious discrimination' are in direct relation to RMIT's decision to create a "multi-faith" spiritual centre. A page now exists for this - albiet, I did create it more with the history of the building in mind. A concern raised was that the article does not link to the RMIT University article. The main RMIT template linking all the RMIT-related pages together does just this.
Also, for the record, I do not work for RMIT (as alledged by said contributor), nor am I attempting to 'whitewash' the RMIT article. I'm concerned more with the quality of the article, and relevance of the information contained in it. - AshGreen (talk), April 02 2009, 17:10 (UTC)

Real RMIT logo?
I think the current RMIT logo either on wiki or RMIT's offical website is a blurred version of its original logo. I used to remember there was some details in the logo. (Because more than 4 years ago, I used to see its logo). But now, all images I can find has no details in the logo. Therefore, I just re-detailed and refined the logo. Please refer to this image: http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:RMIT_logo20061205.gif
I'm not 100% sure, if it was like this(but 80% sure, it has something in it). If you do know, or if you have the original logo file, please give me some feedbacks.
Thanks.
--Netmapper 14:42, 5th Dec 2006 (AUDT)

First time I've seen the logo that way. Could that be an old photo? I'm currently studying my correspondence letters with RMIT but so far their insignia on the letters do not have the lines on them. I'm fairly sure the lines aren't there either if I were to pop into the CBD and have a walk in the campus and check the signs. -Chan Yin Keen | Talk 06:35, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Is there any officials who really know this, come to confirm? --Netmapper 19:20, 5th Dec 2006 (AUDT)
What's more confusing: on the RMIT qualification, they use a different logo. (refer to http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=prb33lxhgjhu the photo in the "Graduation Ceremony" section)
Two questions:
Why use different logos?
What's the meaning of the current logo? (the one on the offical website with no details in the red icon) --Netmapper 00:36, 5th Dec 2006 (AUDT)
I've uhm, placed my graduation cert elsewhere (another country elsewhere), so I can't really help see what is on it, but I think theres a difference between a university's logo, and a unversity's crest. If we were to take for example, MIT, they have a seal and a logo. -Chan Yin Keen | Talk 06:40, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Can someone upload the RMIT logo. The current one is the university crest which is not suitable to be added in the infobox section. Thanks. --60.51.124.214 07:40, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Done. --Canley 04:11, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, not sure how best to submit it, but I have a copy of RMIT's logo (I am part of RMIT's marketing team) that would be good to update the article with - the current logo on the page is not the Universities logo. Erksisagun (talk) 03:41, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

RMIT Building Photos

Can someone upload or show me how to upload pictures of RMIT buildings?

Storey Hall & Buildings 1 along with other buildings should be placed on the site.

I'm at Building 108 so I'll probably get some pics up within the next couple of days. Rogerthat Talk 07:55, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

The picture of Building 108 is too dark. Pictures of storey hall or building 1 are needed.

Why the need to underline the links?

There are some updates required in this section. The "off-site College of Business buildings on Bourke Street" are no longer utilised by RMIT students. I can also provide images of the campuses. Erksisagun (talk) 03:54, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Latin name

Is the Latin name (as mentioned in the frame on the right) really "Universitas TechnicUS Melburnensis Regia"? Since the word universitas is feminine, the correct form would be technica (as in regia, not regius). I'm not sure whether it's a mistake on this page or a mistake in the actual name, in which case the Wikipedia page is correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.58.253.57 (talk) 15:47, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Superlatives

Is RMIT really the largest tertiary education provider? The link provided doesn't really back this up. It just states a number and there's nothing to compare it to.

There's a good list of university numbers on the government website (http://docs.education.gov.au/node/34985), but I haven't found anything for vocational. J.H. Marx (talk) 04:03, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

So there are a bunch more superlatives in here that don't have much backing. "third oldest", "top 100", etc. The "third oldest" one doesn't even actually have a reference, just a statement. J.H. Marx (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

I have no idea whether this is true or not "It is the third oldest tertiary education provider in Victoria, and is the eighth oldest provider of tertiary education in Australia." I haven't been able to find any independent sources to back this up and am considering getting rid of it entirely. Thoughts? J.H. Marx (talk) 04:11, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Overlinked

I have re-added the WP:overlinked tag, please understand the guideline and improve the page before removing the tag. Many common terms are currently linked and do not need to be. Indded jsut in the lead there is linking of Asia, China, Hong Kong and this continues through the article. Aloneinthewild (talk) 15:57, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
