Biographies do not really belong here edit

I agree that if "notable clergy" are indeed notable, they merit their own article. Diocesan articles are not a good place for biographies of anyone associated with them. A few sentences at most for the most notable bishops and priests. Elizium23 (talk) 16:55, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi. 100% agreed. Even if references could be added (definitively associating those people with the subject of this article), then the members of a "notable people" section would ideally meet the project's criteria for "notable people". Otherwise, where do we draw the line? Every parish priest (who wrote a book or some other "claim to fame")? Unless there are other thoughts or objections, I'm inclined to pare back that section to the examples/members you list. Guliolopez (talk) 17:09, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Infobox flag edit

@Guliolopez suggested taking this to talk. A while ago (it will take me a bit to look up the history) on WT:CATHOLIC we worked out that it would be alright to put flags in infoboxes for diocesan articles. Althought Gulio insists they are not for some reason, because they are indeed human geography articles, and they do indeed pertain to administrative subdivisions, it makes sense to accord them flags of the nations they belong to. Please correct me if I am wrong but I know of no Latin Church (arch)diocese that spans national boundaries. Elizium23 (talk) 17:01, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The Catholic dioceses in Ireland do not follow national/political boundaries. Many dioceses, for example in the ecclesiastical province of Armagh, span Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It is right there (granted uncited) in the related section of the related article. Country flags have no reason to be in those diocesan articles. Or in this one. The Catholic dioceses of the island of Ireland do not "belong to nations". Flags should not be "planted" in them as if they do or are "national subdivisions". Or the moon :) They are neither :) (See also List of Catholic dioceses in Ireland#Geographic boundaries). Guliolopez (talk) 17:09, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
You seem prickly about this, but there is nothing to prevent us from placing more than one flag in the infobox to denote all the nations where the dioceses belong. Elizium23 (talk) 17:27, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi. If I am "prickly" it is because you seem to be pushing for flag(s) here (and where, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Armagh article?) when there is no reason to have one. And any number of reasons not to. Including in WP:FLAGCRUFT ("do not emphasize nationality without good reason"), MOS:INFOBOXFLAG ("generally, flag icons should not be used in infoboxes") and WP:IMOS FLAGS ("Northern Ireland has [no] universally recognised flag [...] If an organisation [...] uses no particular flag or banner, do not use any flag"]). If you are still unclear as to the overlaps between flags, religion and sectarianism (or why these are "prickly" subjects in an Irish context), then consider reading any related article. (Also, if you find that WT:CATHOLIC discussion/consensus you mention, please do help signpost it. As I'd be interested to read it. I searched and cannot find any related discussion under WT:CATHOLIC or TT:Infobox diocese or related archives). Guliolopez (talk) 02:21, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
