Why is this short

edit

I don't have time right now to write more about this guy but more needs to be done.2601:0:AC01:8200:4568:B0FF:70E3:B6E4 (talk) 22:42, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I'm rather shocked at how brief this is given what an immense contribution Trivers made to the biology of behavior. I'm going to have some time later this week and I plan to do some editing here and also on The Folly of Fools which is also very sparse. --MadScientistX11 (talk) 01:36, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Huey Newton's title

edit

Huey Newton is named here as chairman of the Black Panthers but in the main article on Huey Newton, he is referred to as Minister of Defence. Which is correct?

Does Dr. Trivers have a Jamaican connection? I thought he did, because at some point he lived there, I think?? Can anyone confirm? 66.161.120.11 16:21, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

See references for articles detailing Trivers' connection to Jamaica. Rolando 05:42, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation

edit

"Triv" or "try", i.e. a short /i/ or the dyphthong /ai/ in the first syllable? While perhaps obvious to the native speakers of English, it is far from that to those speaking English as a second language. Needless to say, the same goes for a great number of other names. It rhymes with "shivers." I will request an IPA pronunciation. Rolando 05:42, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bachelor's Degree

edit

He did get a BA in history, didn't he? I suppose that the parenthetical just refers to him not having gotten a BA in biology. Is that right? If so, it's a bit confusing. JrFace 21:44, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Time 100

edit

There is no indication that he was named to the Time 100. Edge (http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/bios/trivers.html) claims he was, but where did they get that information? The link on this page goes to a commentary article on Time, and Trivers does not appear in the Time 100 list for any year. 65.95.162.144 00:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

some geneticists say there is no such thing as race...

edit

Reading this article I realized that, while it is common in wikipedia to mention that somebody is Jewish or African American, etc., articles don't generally mention "white" or "caucasian". It says in this article that Trivers joined the Black Panther Party, which of course was a black political movement. I had to google his photo to draw my own conclusions about the significance of Trivers's friendship with Huey Newton and membership in the Black Panthers. I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying: it's a weird policy; probably, it's been discussed somewhere else before.

I think an easy fix would be to add Robert's charming mug to the infobox. I'll see if there is an image in the commons. --MadScientistX11 (talk) 01:40, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
No luck there. I hate working with images so avoid it as much as possible, does anyone have any suggestions where I might find a public domain photo of Trivers? Or is it possible to make a fair use exception? --MadScientistX11 (talk) 01:43, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I reached out to the web master at Trivers personal site. He replied very quickly and said he would see what he can do :-) --MadScientistX11 (talk) 19:23, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I haven't heard back from the web master yet but my guess is that Trivers has other things on his mind right now. He is involved in a controversy at Rutgers, they suspended him for refusing to teach: http://www.nj.com/education/2014/02/rutgers_suspends_top_anthropology_professor_for_allegedly_refusing_to_teach_report_says.html I plan to work this into the article and after another week or so I'll ping the web master again. If anyone has any suggestions for other sources for copyleft pictures of Trivers please let me know. --MadScientistX11 (talk) 02:51, 15 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
