Date mixup? edit

The bibliography gives his first novel as 1976 and the lede gives a different title as his first from 1977. Accounting4Taste 23:33, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not sure what this is referring to - maybe it's something that has since been corrected; but the Fantastic Fiction site lists "Death of an Old Goat" as being written in 1974, which would make this his first novel. (See http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/b/robert-barnard/ .)

I sometimes try to find definitive lists of all works by an author, and even apparently reliable sites which give complete bibliographies are riddled with details which contradict other apparently equally reliable sites, so that it makes it just about impossible to come up with a definitive listing. About the best I can think of to do is to visit as many sites as possible which I trust which list the works in question, and do a "majority vote": if just one or two sites differ in some detail and most of the others agree, then I go with the majority; if they all give a different version, or divide about 50/50, then I have to regard the detail as undecided.
