Gosh, this is big edit

This article, on a fairly limited subject, is over-large. We have discussions ranging from uniform regulations to beards to who knows what. The discussion of the origins of religious symbols seems to be on-target if the title of this thign is any guide at all. Some photos of curent and past insignia seem in order. Minor details as to who wears what where seems excessive. Barrng any objections, I intend to make a major pruning of this. I will wait a few days for comments. Blanking of major sections edit

I see that PaulinSaudi made a note (above) that he would begin to do major pruning, after waiting a few days for comments. I compliment him for posting this note, but unfortunately I have been out of the country and missed it. I do see that he has blanked out entire sections which represent hard facts, all extremely well-referenced -- many of which I contributed after I created the article. The article now is part of a number of wikiprojects. I think PaulinSaudi might be right that the article should be cut down into some smaller articles -- but my plea at this point is that he identify the sections he thinks should become separate articles (is there a banner for that?) and give some time for me and others to create those articles. Part of the problem is the ripple effect of deleting entire sections -- such as the fact that photos that have been approved for fair use only because they are part of a wikipedia article are now being deleted because they are "orphaned." Giving time to set up the separate articles, and then deleting the sections here as the new articles are set up, would avoid that process. Also, creating a separate article is not as easy as just moving the deleted section, because of shared references. Anyway, I would very much like to see some time lag between a recommendation that a section be deleted and the actual deletion or blanking of that section. Thanks -- NearTheZoo (talk) 23:08, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Based on my note (above) I have temporarily reinstated a few entire sections/subsections that were deleted. I do NOT want to do any edit-warring, and again acknowledge the fact that PaulinSaudi began blanking out sections after noting he would do some pruning. Still, I hope these reinstated sections (with hard well-referenced facts -- and images) can remain, at least temporarily, while we work together to make new articles where appropriate.NearTheZoo (talk) 23:51, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Isn't it remarkable how many people have edited to this article? But I hope we can all agree this thing is huge. I would suppose we would need articles on US MIlitary Chapels, US Chaplains before 1860, US Chaplains in WW1, Religious Symbols on US MIlitary Headstones and so on. But I really have no dog in the fight. I am very willing to follow the leads of others. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 23:56, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

New Article edit

I started a new article entitled Insignia of Chaplain Schools in the US Military. It seems silly as a subject by itself, but it also seems needlessly trival here. I welcome your thoughts. If you think this is the way forward, we can proceed. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 16:57, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
