Role in Selk'nam genocide

edit

This article reads "He played a key role in the Selk'nam Genocide", and "Lista takes responsibility for an encounter in which 26 Indians armed with bows and arrows were shot dead. Some of the survivors were taken prisoner, and he sent some of the women to Río Gallegos, Santa Cruz", with print citations I have not seen.

The Selk'nam Genocide article reads "The genocide spanned a period of between ten and fifteen years. The Selk'nam had an estimated population of 4,000 people around the 1880s but saw their numbers reduced to 500 by the early 1900s." "Ramón Lista and his detachment of soldiers" were amongst the perpetrators [of the genocide], and "Among those who hunted the indigenous people were...Ramón Lista..." with a citation which does not mention Lista. The Selk'nam people article repeats the latter statement without citation.

I am not attempting to defend Lista's killing of 26 Indians and imprisonment of their families, but I think the descriptions of Lista's activities in these three WP articles do not support describing him as "playing a key role in the Selk'nam Genocide", nor "Being a major perpetrator of the Selk'nam Genocide". I am reverting Lightiggy's amendment to Lista's infobox until citations can support describing him as a major perpetrator. What do others think? Masato.harada (talk) 11:20, 18 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
