Limited references edit

It seems this page has only links for a single site, and gets most info from that site also. There is nothing wrong with that, except more variety should be provided. Also the site only presents womans makeup. This is not at all ok in an enciclopedia, I think. --Rnbc 21:28, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • There were a few other links to one other site, but they were all completely broken. I agree that it is disappointing that the only site that can be found that shows this type of information only covers females, even if some are transformed into males. Similar sites for males wearing prosthetic makeup would be great but I've searched a number of times and not found any. If you can find some suitable links, it'd be great. --AliceJMarkham 22:38, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

In fact cite reference number 1 claims to be a link to a page that describes the process of making prosthetics, as though it were a tutorial; and instead it's a link to a store that sells products! I don't think it's considered encyclopedic to be propagandizing merchandise. --Lwangaman (talk) 10:40, 25 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge or keep separate? edit

This seems to be on a similar topic, but have more information than, the article Facial prosthetic. Now, there's already an article on Craniofacial prosthesis, which are facial prosthetics for medical purposes, and currently the facial prosthetic article is mostly about prosthetic make-up. So, I was wondering, should facial prosthetic and this article, prosthetic make-up be merged, or should facial prosthetic be kept as an article about facial prosthetics in general, meaning containing information on both prosthetic makeup, meaning prosthetics for non-medical purposes such as theatre, TV, and film, and Craniofacial prosthesis, meaning prosthetic for medical purposes? • I agree with the idea of merging the articles, and having subheadings for the medical and theatrical versions. In fact, I think I suggesated it in one of the articles' talk pages several months ago. --AliceJMarkham 04:46, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. I wanted to add a picture to one of these articles, but I'm too afraid of the monumental selection of copyrights to do so. I already mentioned that on Talk:Facial_prosthetic, but no one seems to come to these articles very often, and I haven't gotten an answer in 10 days. Anyway, is there someplace else I could ask questions about picture copyrights besides a seldom-visited talk page? Kevin 20:26, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • There are specific wiki pages for those subjects. I'd suggest you start at WP:IUP. --AliceJMarkham 04:46, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rewrite edit

This article is currently far from being encyclopedic.

  • The "The Makeup Gallery" section, which I have retitled as "Notable examples" is a fairly random assortment of links.
  • The categories of makeup are listed inline to this list, but never defined in the article, only through external links
  • No sources are listed, and many unproven claims are made ("the most...", etc.)
  • The techniques section provides a description of a single specific technique as opposed to a generic explanation of the steps needed.
  • The history is listed merely as a list of contributors.

This article needs a major rewrite. I reccomend sources including:

  • Stage Makeup by Richard Corson
  • Techniques of the Three Dimensional Makeup Artist by Lee Baygan
  • Mark Alfrey's Prosthetic Make-Up for Beginners (Video)
  • Creating Character Prosthetics in Silicone (Video) by Niel Gorton

I'll get on this when I can. If anyone wishes to beat me to it, I'd love you for it. -Verdatum (talk) 17:14, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Glue/adhesive edit

What type of glue or adhesive is used with this type of makeup? -- Beland (talk) 20:24, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Spirit gum I think

Why in God's name does this take so long to apply? edit

It seriously blows how many movies and tv shows have had to either limit these kinds of characters or have trouble getting actors to portray them because of how freakin' long the makeup takes to apply... can't they speed it up a tad? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.73.70.113 (talk) 23:49, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
