Something should be added about the medical use of facial prosthetics- they have a long history. In modern times French soldiers scarred after World War 1 were fitted with specially made prosthetics to replace missing or badly disfigured parts of their faces- they were specially modeled and painted to appear realistic and often were attached to a pair of spectacles to keep them in place. Presently similar devices are used by cancer patients and are attached using magnets and small steel pins in the facial bones. --Saxophobia 20:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

medical v theatrical

As the artical asserts that medical circles referr to facial prosthetics as craniofacial prosthetics, and there is a seperate artical under that name, I removed the medical stub tag. Given both articles are stubs and seem likely share significant information it may be worth merging these subjects. Darker Dreams 03:43, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

I'd suggest that this article duplicates craniofacial prosthesis in its medical content and prosthetic makeup in its theatrical content. As such, any content that is relevant should be merged into the relevant article and this article should be replaced with a redir to one. Picture

I could easily get a picture from the links to add here, and upload it. The trouble is, Wikipedia's a legal quagmire when it comes to uploading picture that you didn't take, so much so that in the two years I've been editing Wikipedia, I'm still extremely wary of uploading any picture, and will ask others to do it if a page needs one. Take, for example, the pictures on this page: http://www.northfur.ca/prosthetic_shop/kangaroo_muzzle.html, both the picture of the slush cast latex, and the examples of its application. Can any of those be uploaded? If so, under what license? Do you need expressed permission from its creator and/or the person in the photo? If you had that, how would you upload on their behalf, and not have your image deleted? I know one of Wikipedia's slogans is "be bold", but when it comes to pictures, I'm clueless with licenses and coprights. Kevin 16:48, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

The current state of the history section - permission to edit (?)

Hello. I am new to Wikipedia, having browsed it much but never edited before, and not am not particularly well versed on the proper protocol for this. I was wondering if, given the current odd, difficult to parse, and downright ungrammatical state of the history section, I might be allowed to go in and try to clean it up slightly, with reference to the sources. I am not in any way well versed on this topic, and could not do such as to debate the veracity of the sources listed, but I might be able to use them to make the article more readable than its current state.
