Some of these letters contain information on papal views during the controversial wartime era, especially the 1939-1942 period, in which the Pope was accused of silence in the face of human suffering. These writings ought of be analyzed more closely in order to dispel such rumours and allegations which seem unfounded to so many people, especially on the part of historians who have defended Pius's honour and legacy.
