Plasmodium biziuraePlasmodium relictum – P. relictum appears to be the current name of what was formerly called P. biziurae. The current P. relictum page is (and always has been) a redirect to Avian malaria. – Ajpolino (talk) 21:09, 19 August 2016 (UTC) --Relisting for more visibility, since this seems to be a niche topic — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 06:58, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • @Ajpolino and Andy M. Wang: Do you have a citation for this? Also, the current page has been idle for about 3 years, and the target has been a redirect for 8+ years. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 00:35, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, a Google search gives pretty much no sources and a GScholar search only gives papers from before 1965. Seemed odd but now I'm nearly certain that its because the species was reclassified decades ago. The only book I could find that references a new name for it is here where the author indicates that Plasmodium relictum includes the species that was originally called P. biziurae. I'm guessing the reason the article has sat idle for so long is there are hardly any sources for P. biziurae since it appears the name change occurred in 1966. Let me know if that's unclear or if the proposed move seems poorly justified! Ajpolino (talk) 05:26, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Conditional support. The 2004 book that Ajpolino mentions establishes possible synonymy. Plasmodium#Birds lists both P. biziurae and P. relictum, apparently sourced to this 2014 paper by Clark. Neither species is actually mentioned in the body of the Clark paper, but there are some supplementary documents I'm having trouble opening. Unless Clark's supplementary documents have a species list that includes P. biziurae as separate from P. relictum, this article should be moved. If the supplementary documents don't have a species list (and I suspect they don't), the Clark paper needs to be handled differently in Plasmodium as the current placement of the citation suggests that it is the source for a species list. The supplementary documents from Clark 2014 seem to open fine on my computer. If you send me an email I'd be happy to send them to you. I don't see a species list there, but it might be worthwhile for you to take a look just in case I'm missing something. Ajpolino (talk) 01:55, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Note: I pinged WT:BIRDS in case anyone has some bird disease books handy.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  07:17, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
