Edits On Their Way

edit

This article is going to get a large update due to the efforts of Ms. Hayes's Freshman writing class.

isn't that wonderful? I can't wait to write about this! I hope this turns out wonderful... (Maybe someone might even look at it!) Alexandre-Jérôme

Los Altos Hills vs. Los Altos

edit

Personal research/experience has led me to believe that the two campi located in Los Altos are more histoircally and originally important (not to mention doubly more numerous) so hence I changed the title Pinewood School, Los Altos Hills to Pinewood School, Los Altos Alexandre-Jérôme

Something is wrong with the dates in this section.

  • This, among others, has been a section witnissing annoying amounts of vandalism. Now that school is out, hopefully they will survive for a while longer. The current dates (see sig for today's date) are correct, I believe, according the administration and hopefully will stay that way. Alexandre-Jérôme 02:29, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Students - Alumni

edit

Is this one of the sections that was vandalized?

Also, I am not sure why this is a good section to have? Unless there was an extremely notable graduate.

My concerns for this section are:

  • Privacy concerns for the named graduates (did they consent to the listing?)
  • Minor "fame" just clutters the section and takes away from the good stuff.
  • This wikipedia article should not end up being an alumni board, there are other places for that.
  • There is too much possibility of abuse for that section.

All that being said, I would strike the entire section and maybe mention Charles Oliver, John Chu and Larisa Oleynik. True famous alums.

I'll check back in a few weeks and see if there is any other discussion before I move to make the edits.

Don't get me wrong, I knew and/or taught most of the students in that list and they have great accomplishments. This article should not be about getting your name in Wikipedia, but about Pinewood School.

How has notability been established for people living in Notable Alumni section? The burden should be on establishing notability for placing them there and not the other way around. If notability cannot be established, they should be deleted. Please note Wikipedia's Notability and Wikipedia:Notability_(people) guidelines. Notability must be established by adding Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.212.181.15 (talk) 19:55, 30 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please see Wikipedia:ALMAMATER, otherwise titled "Your alma mater is not your ticket to Wikipedia." Please see specifically "It is easy to detect non-notable names on a university alumni list. There are some recurrent characteristics. Person does not have their own Wikipedia article, and thus their name is not highlighted blue. Occasionally, someone notable won't have their own Wikipedia article yet, but will be listed in their university article, but that's the exception to the rule."

All good info to remember. Cleanup is occurring. Eileen Shea-Hilliard is a great example of someone legitimate for a Notable Alumni section that does not have her own Wikipedia article. She was Named Athlete of the Decade for a major Division 1 College sports program, won an Olympic Festival Gold Medal, was Player of the Year in Denmark, where she played professionally and was a collegiate basketball coach for Oakland College. She earned most her accolades before the Internet age (early 90's), so online citations are few. She was also inducted into the Pinewood School Athletic Hall of Fame. There is no better definition of notable alumni than Eileen.

Mark Jeffery, Scotty Scott and Yasmine, I am not so sure about. Yasmine's notability seems to be only linked to her sister. Jon, Larissa, Şebnem and Roxy, there is no question. Michael Penn, I am not sure. More research is needed. He is accomplished, but maybe not notable.

I think Charles Oliver should also be added. He an a director, producer and screenwriter who has worked with academy award winning Hollywood actors. I will work on his citations soon. 30 March 2014 (UTC)Wtbates Wtbates (talk) 00:32, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Not sure if Charles Oliver is notable enough. Consider other Charles Olivers that have biographical articles written about them for reference. In any case, an actual Wikipedia biographical article needs to be written about him in the near future if indeed he is notable.

Pinewood does not appear to conform to Wikipedia's notability guidelines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_%28schools%29 ErikHaugen (talk) 20:12, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Upper vs. Lower/Middle

edit

Since the Lower and Middle Campuses are actually in Los Altos, shouldn't it mention them more? This article seems completely about the Upper Campus. Maybe it needs two separate articles for the three campuses. Gamesforsid (talk) 06:36, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
