I am amused edit

What an unfortunate first name. Philander. Just look at what that search brings up. One wonders if the name was intentional, or just an unfortunate coincidence.

Yes, I am aware this is mostly irrelevent. That's why it's on the talk page and not on the main article.--Swiftblade21 03:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The name was almost certainly intentional. I have not been able to find any data on whether he was named in tribute to Philander Chase, the first Episcopal Bishop of Ohio, and the founder of Kenyon College. Knox was born eight months after Chase died. --Nufftin 19:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikification edit

I think that this article needs to be broken up into a couple of sections. The existing format is confusing, and makes the article seem very short. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 00:45, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sectioning has now been done. Wasted Time R (talk) 03:16, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Misplaced Quote? edit

The large block quote about US intervention in Nicaragua doesn't seem to have much to do with Philander Knox. I didn't tamper with or remove it, but it probably belongs elsewhere (history of Nicaragua springs to mind). 184.58.229.50 (talk) 19:49, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Number of presidents served under? edit

In the intro section, there's a sentence that reads: "He served in the Cabinet under three presidents." However, in the infobox on the right, it mentions four presidents, not three. According to the infobox, he served as Attorney General under William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, and then as Secretary of State under William Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson. One of these two items is incorrect, either the sentence in the intro, or the list of presidents in the infobox. Does anyone know which needs to be corrected?
