Chylek's open letter edit

Tony, I undid your edit for two reasons: 1) Your description of the edit was inaccurate. You changed a couple of key words in the 2009 Open Letter section, yet the reason for the edit described a link change. 2) Your two word change characterizes Chylek's verbiage as an accusation of behavior, when in fact, it was written as an appeal to stop a behavior.

Though couched as an appeal, it necessarily accused other scientists of the behavior it was appealing them to stop. This is the essence of the presupposition fallacy. --TS 21:43, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps we can find more neutral langauge, so neither of us is creating a characterization of what Chylek writes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.156.96.16 (talk) 22:13, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
How about, he's accusing some of his fellow scientists of "[substituting] the search for truth with an attempt at proving one point of view" and appealing to them instead to "drastically modify or temporarily discontinue the IPCC" and to stop "making unjustified claims and exaggerated projections about the future even if the editors of some eminent journals are just waiting to publish them." --TS 22:21, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think we're better off avoiding accuse or appeal, since we are then adding a presumed position to his intent. What if we use "requests" instead? He is making a request of the email recipients. Using that term to characterize what he is asking for is more neutral in tone. It's really not for us to say whether or not his verbiage is intended as an accusation, or with whether or not it is an accurate statement. Based on the text of his email, he believes the behavior has gone on. Our job as editors is to accurately reflect the intent of the email, and hopefully not nuance it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.156.96.16 (talk) 22:42, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I messed about with it a bit and ended up with:

The email says the climate science community has "substituted the search for truth with an attempt at proving one point of view" and suggests "Let us drastically modify or temporarily discontinue the IPCC." He also appeals for climate scientists to stop making what he calls "unjustified claims and exaggerated projections about the future even if the editors of some eminent journals are just waiting to publish them."

As Wikipedians we report the facts about opinions. We don't report the opinions as fact. I think that does it. --TS 04:20, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think that is acceptable. I made a minor revision to eliminate "says" in favor of "writes." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.156.96.16 (talk) 14:17, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

BLP noticeboard edit

Section = 109 BLP articles labelled "Climate Change Deniers" all at once. This article was placed in a "climate change deniers" category. After discussion on WP:BLPN and WP:CFD the category was deleted. Peter Gulutzan (talk) 16:17, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
