Requested move 25 May 2016
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Peter Engel moved to Peter Engel (author), Peter Engel (TV producer) moved to Peter Engel. There is a clear consensus for the notion that the television producer has WP:PRIMARYTOPIC status by virtue of page views, and that a disambiguation page would be undesirable in this case per WP:TWODABS. A hatnote will be placed on the television producer's page, so that readers will be able to ensure that they are in the right place. (non-admin closure) RGloucester — ☎ 04:56, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
– This is effectively a WP:TWODABS situation, so Peter Engel needs further disambiguation (and Peter Engel (author) seems to be the best choice, though Peter Engel (artist) is another possible choice), whereas Peter Engel (TV producer) is currently overly disambiguated (a "(producer)" disambigatutor should be sufficient...). Ultimately, Peter Engel should become a disambiguation page to these two articles. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 17:48, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

- Support moving the producer to the undisambiguated name per WP:TWODABS. Nohomersryan (talk) 12:55, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
- Move producer to base line per Nohomersryan. Disambiguation pages with only two entries are undesirable per WP:TWODABS when a primary topic exists. SSTflyer 14:18, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
- Move the producer to the Peter Engel. He's more viewed, and as there are only WP:TWODABS the author can be linked just as easily with a hat note as from a dab page.--Cúchullain t/c 18:48, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- Move the producer to Peter Engel and move the author as proposed. The page views show he is the primary topic, even without the advantage of being at the un-disambiguated title. kennethaw88 • talk 03:33, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- Any additional comments:
- Note: Based on page view statistics, Peter Engel (TV producer) is more viewed (by a factor of perhaps 5), so an alternative possibility is to move Peter Engel (TV producer) → Peter Engel and to move Peter Engel → Peter Engel (author). I'll let the community help sort this out... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 17:50, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
- If I "namedrop" that Peter Engel is the guy behind Saved by the Bell, will that generate more interest here?... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 13:43, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

Removing DOB from article
editWhile Hollywood.com has Engel's DOB as 1960, there has been more than one piece of evidence supplied here that Engel had to have been born earlier than that (e.g. this where Engel discusses meeting JFK in 1960!). The problem is that no specific sourcing has really been provided to support a different DOB (e.g. 1940, which the ref I include above makes no mention of). Therefore, under WP:BLPPRIVACY, I feel there's no choice to remove the DOB entirely, until strong secondary sourcing can be provided for the verifiably correct DOB. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 18:08, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- Is there anything at all anywhere that gives his age at some date we could use as an estimate. With 1940 and 1960 as possibilities an approximation is hard to support for either one without something backing it up. Geraldo Perez (talk) 23:40, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Not that I am aware. From what I've been told, his autobiography does not give an exact date or year of birth. It may be possible to infer an approximate age based on the events in the memoir, but as I don't have access to it so I can't do it myself. But anyone that does try to do that will need to cite specific page numbers... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 01:11, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- An estimate that we can justify would be sufficient for this article. Lots of historical bios don't have exact year of birth. About meeting JFK in 1960 he stated "it was 1960 and I was just out of college" means we can probably support c. 1938 to 1940 based on likely being 22 at the time assuming average college exit age. Geraldo Perez (talk) 01:39, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- I could probably be talked into supporting a "c. 1940" for a DOB, provided the source I cited above is used, along with a clear note explaining the rationale for quoting a "c.1940" DOB. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 18:35, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Long term historical bio articles need some link to the time period or era a person existed. Years_active is the infobox parameter for this but something similar stated in the lead would serve the purpose of pining his existence to some time frame. Probably should state that anyway. I consider the reference with have with an explanatory note sufficient to support c. 1940. We just need something reasonable and can defend for an estimate. In the book I Was Saved by the Bell ISBN 0997943114 available at Amazon he states in the Prologue on page 1 "It was 1989, and the future of Saved by the Bell hung in the balance. Fifty-three years old, and executive producer of the show, I walked briskly and with purpose across the blacktop at NBC Studios in Burbank, California." We can use that as a reference for c. 1936.
