Birthplace

edit

Colchicum reverted my edit regarding Ariste's birthplace, based on a confusion regarding what is 'Estonia'.

Unqualified 'Estonia' generally refers to Estonia, which roughly overlaps the dwelling place of Estonians over a number of centuries. Before 1920, this territory was governed by a number of external rulers, and divided in various ways; most recently into the Revel Governorate and the Riga Governorate in Russian Empire. However, this administrative division had little effect to the people in question, and it constitutes WP:UNDUE -- thus contributing to misleading -- to claim administrative territoriteries rather than the geographic region as historic people's birthplaces. The question, of course, would be fuzzier if there were any lingering border disputes between Estonia and Latvia, but that is not the case; the consensus from both sides of the border is clear that the governorate border was insignificant for any geopolitical purposes. Academy of Esperanto

edit

The source is "AKTOJ de la AKADEMIO 1963-1967", but it does not mean Ariste was a member of the Academy just in these years. The source states:

GRUPO II. ELIRJARO: 1976. ... Ariste (05 – 21 – 67).

It means: (19)05 is the year of birth, (19)21 the year of becoming esperantist, (19)67 the year of election to the Academy, and elirjaro is the last year of the membership. --Mmh (talk) 13:00, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
