History Section and Much of Article Needs Rewrite

There's definitely a problem with the history section when 1/4 of it refers to the humorous (although inaccurate) take on Parma by local tv comedians. The reference to Ghoulardi, Big Chuck, etc should be removed from the history section and added to a pop culture section if anywhere at all. Also, with several historical books on Parma available at the local libraries, one even by former Parma mayor James Day, why are these books not being used as sources, particularly for the history section? This section, along with the majority of the article, needs serious updating and a greater reliance should be made to cite some of those historical books. --JSmetana (talk) 04:06, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Stearns Homestead Photo

Why is Stearns Homestead museum listed as the photo for Parma? Parma is not a farm community and the photo does little to accurately represent Parma. Why not a photo of the historic shopping area around Snow/Ridge or a nice Cleveland skyline view from Parma's State/W. Ridgewood intersection? The skyline view, for instance, would likely be most appropriate to indicate Parma is one of the Cleveland area's suburbs. --JSmetana (talk) 03:43, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Parma's safety

The article says, "See the history section of this article for possible reasons for this decline," but I don't really see any relevant information in the history section, unless the reason for the decline is political scandals and sagging power lines. --Birdhombre 14:46, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

The city blowed away thousands of dollars on the Witch Hunt. The police cancelled DARE, have not replaced the police dog, and have less than 100 officers, even thoug the FBI said that Parma should have 165 officers to adequately protect a city of its size. The city has lost more officers, including ranking officers, than it has replaced. Thus, the facts are that the services and abilities and number of officers have decreased over the past few years and one would have to think that these things collectively do not help. Cleveland Magazine has a safety ranking (along with education stats, housing figures, etc) each year for each Cleveland suburb - why doesn't this information make its way into the article? While Cleveland Magazine's ranking system has its own unique set of problems in calculating safety (ie. can they really use the same measure to accurately compare a much larger city of approx 82,000 to a city of 15,000 or one with 20,000?), including it would definitely be more informative for the general public than relying on a ranking in 2006 from an relatively obscure and now seemingly defunct research group. recent changes

I've recently deleted much of the unsourced information per WP:ATT, though I left some of the stuff that is seemingly verifiable. I also removed the more non-notable sections, especially the sections on police chiefs, and the section on the police investigations, neither of which is sourced reliably, nor encyclopedic or notable. I also removed the current events tag at the top: a city cannot be a current event.

My advice is if you want to include the section on the police investigations, with reliable sources, that should be it's own article, which you COULD have a current event tag on. At this point however, it doesn't have enough reliable sources to be includable. ⇒ SWATJester ^{On Belay!} 22:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Probably not necessary as in just a few moments, I was able to find all kinds of references to pretty much everything under dispute online. You and the anonymous people seemed to quick to revert when some quick web searches seems to resolve everything and even uncovers some interesting new information. Heck, I had all but forgotten about that water crisis that accompanied the black out and was surprised it wasn't included, because I recall the TV news calling it the "worst water crisis" in Cuyahoga County's history! Proposed addition to education section

It might be worth mentioning that John Muir Elementary School, a very old school in Parma, caught on fire at one point within the past 20 years and has since agressively remodelled the school and its grounds. I'm not aware of any other school fires in the city and its remodelling is consistent with other major remodelling projects, such as the ongoing Greening of Padua. I don't remember the exact dates and what all has been done, but were someone willing to contact the school or local newspapers, I'm sure the information is out there and again this was a noteworthy event for the city and its educational history. --164.107.223.217 00:07, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Possible big news about city government sitting on investigation until after yet another tax passes?

Hello! There’s fairly widespread media attention this week to the possibility that the mayor’s administration may have tried covering up or keeping hush about some internal police investigation until after the police levy passed in an election. Maybe, 164, Wizardman, Swatjester, or Wikipedian, can do something with the below links. I say wait and see how it plays out. I think in indictments with a grand jury are planned for some time this week, so we'll see if it becomes a bigger news story or if just fades away. I agree though, to avoid another edit dispute on this page, it would probably be best that if anyone decides to do anything with this it be one of the administrators like Wizardman or SwatJster. Raising this to the next level

I've moved a couple of sections and had a look at the article. It's pretty well sourced so far, and might be fun to help raise to GA. Three things to work on would be:

• WP:NPOV#Undue weight - the current text emphasizes negative elements about Parma. If its public image really is predominantly negative, then neutrality ought to reflect that. Yet it seems that more than a fair share of space is going into relatively minor events, compared to the depth of overall coverage about this city.
• Images - more images would be helpful, both photographs by Wikipedians and public domain scans of material from Parma's early history. Look for material published 1922 or earlier; that should be free now.
• Introduction - an article this size should have a good three paragraph introduction.

Good work so far. Although I'm nowhere near Ohio, I'd be glad to lend a hand with image cropping/rotation, copyediting, and things like that. Best wishes, Durova^Charge! 21:05, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Regarding the undue weight, upon re-reading i was thinking this. Some of the witch hunt stuff could be reduced quite a bit, or at least knock out the unneeded unsourced stuff.
