Talk:Ottoman–Mamluk War (1485–1491)

Primary topic edit

If this war is the primary topic for "Ottoman–Mamluk War", as I believe it is, then the parentheses can (and, unless there is another Ottoman–Mamluk War we're going cover, should) be removed. Srnec (talk) 21:15, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Srnec! There is normally a second Mamluk-Ottoman war (1516-1517), which includes the Battle of Marj Dabiq (1516), Battle of Yaunis Khan (1516) Battle of Ridaniya (1517), and which put an end to the Mamluk Sultanate in 1517. Listed in Dictionary of Battles and Sieges by Tony Jaques xxxiv. Cheers Per Honor et Gloria  21:31, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
As long as our naming follows independent (reliable) sources, I don't mind. I just noticed, while searching to verify that this was indeed a name for the conflict, that the term "Ottoman–Mamluk War" referred almost always to the conflict of 1485–91. So when are you going to create Ottoman–Mamluk War (1516–1517)? I'll be waiting! Srnec (talk) 03:52, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Infantry or cavalry? edit

I'm confused by "[...] the Ottomans relied on a conventional army only, with light infantry combining with infantry units.". I suspect the Ottomans combined light cavalry with infantry - can someone with access to the source verify this? --Stephan Schulz (talk) 12:22, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

You're totally right, thanks for finding the typo! Per Honor et Gloria  12:26, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
