Update logo Change number of students to 1,215 (Fall 2016) In fall 2016, OSU-Cascades opened a new 10-acre campus at 1500 SW Chandler Avenue in Bend, Oregon. OSU-Cascades now offers four-year degrees. [1] [2] [3] OSU-Cascades purchased the 56-acre former pumice mine adjacent to the 10-acres to expand the campus to serve 3,000-5,000 students by 2025. Next to the existing campus and university-owned pumice mine property, a 72-acre landfill closed for operation in 1994. A 2015 letter of intent between OSU-Cascades and the County allows for a two-year evaluation period for exploring the viability of reclaiming and potentially acquiring the property. [4] [5] Research In the 2015-16 academic year, OSU-Cascades researchers were awarded 20 research grants totaling more than $1.4 million. OSU-Cascades is home to an energy systems lab, Force biomechanics laboratory, Human Ecosystem and Resiliency and Sustainability lab among others. [6] [7] [8] Student Life Bend is Central Oregon’s largest city. OSU-Cascades has more than 30 active student organizations and groups including alpine skiing and mountain biking club sports teams. The campus is located 20 minutes from Mt. Bachelor ski area. Several federal and state natural forests and parks make up popular student destinations, including Smith Rock and the Deschutes National Forest. The men’s alpine ski team won the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association’s Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference. [9] SaraKate (talk) 23:40, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
