This section is a general description of Socialist Realism, not of Nowa Huta's architecture. It does not belong here.

HIstory

edit

The reasons for building such an industrial town near Kraków were mostly ideological and were against laws of economy ....

For which economy are you talking? Market economy or planned economy? I believe this part of the text confuse the "laws" of market economy with the "laws" of planned economy. And in any case you have to proove that there are someting like economic "laws" out there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.207.95.110 (talk) 20:10, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

Steel

edit

Is the steel mill still in operation? I've read elsewhere that acid rain produced by emissions from the steel mill has damaged Krakow's historical and architectural fabric. Should this be mentioned here? Sca (talk) 20:55, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

They moved the Lenin statue to Hillerstorp Sweden? Really? Can't find any facts about this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.249.64.81 (talk) 10:10, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The article is perpetuating a myth

edit

"The reasons for building such an industrial town near Kraków were mostly ideological and were against laws of economy"

That is simply not true and is one of the myths about Nowa Huta. For English-language source look here: http://www.krakowpost.com/article/2509 I'll quote: "The decision to construct the giant Vladimir Lenin Steel Works, and its accompanying ideal socialist town, near Krakow seems to have been based on the presence of good rail links for bringing raw materials from east and west, the proximity of the river to supply water, and a site that was elevated enough to avoid flooding. The fact that Krakow was a centre of learning, with established schools of engineering and scientific research departments, added to the location’s attractiveness as a site for a major industrial investment."

At the very least it should be said that the primacy of political reasons for choosing Kraków as the localization of Nowa Huta is far from clear. I'm not sure how to modify that erroneous paragraph, though. Should it be deleted altogether? I'm looking forward to any suggestions and I'd rather someone else changed it. I'll be happy to help you with this if you provide some reliable third party sources which confirm your point of view beyond a single online article. Per our WP:REDFLAG policy, when the subject gets controversial (as in the case of Communist Propaganda in the Polish People's Republic claiming almost exactly what you wrote), the more sources we have for confirmation of the facts the better. What referendum?

edit

"A referendum held by the authorities was soundly defeated by the people of Kraków..." What was the referendum about?

President?

"Government • President Stanisław Moryc" - this seems nonsense, since when NH has a president? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:42, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
