Former good article nomineeNottinghamshire was a Geography and places good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. County flower gubbins edit

  • Can I just get this straight - the county flower appears to have been chosen by a plant charity. Not the people of Nottinghamshire, not tradition, not the elected bodies, but a charity as a self-promotion stunt. Is there any proof at all that the county is paying the slightest bit of attention to this? Can anyone find so much as one reference to it on the council site for example? Since there appears to be no official flower whatsoever, I'm removing the statement. Average Earthman 08:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

GA Nom Comments edit

This article is well on it's way to GA status, but still needs some work. I'd like to see the cultural section increased in size (you could put a paragraph in here about Robin Hood tourism), a little bit about history and Robin Hood: Do historians think the tale has a basis in history, what was life like in middle age Nottingham, etc. We also need inline references in this section and to have the lead brought in line with WP:LEAD. I'll put the nom on hold. --CTSWyneken(talk) 02:39, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

2 things... edit

  1. , is this hawton church really a place of interest? because I can name a few churches as nice as this place.
  2. , do we (notts folk) have a flag? cos many other counties appear to. 82.15.7.144 21:37, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Economy edit

From a look at the Nottinghamshire page it would appear that other than Coal mining and Power stations (both of which have had closures) there is no economy in Nottinghamshire ? is ther another business article for Notts and is there a list of Nottinghamshire business to link articles together like:- List of companies based in Leeds  ? - BulldozerD11 (talk) 01:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

City of Nottingham & County of the Same City edit

The tenor of the article suggests that Unitary Status for Nottingham is recent. In 1449 the then Borough of Nottingham became a County Corporate with perpetual and eternal Shire County rights. This gave Nottingham effective rights to its own Quarter Sessions, Coroner & Lord Lieutenant. Several Royal Charters (including the City Charter of 1897) confirm that Nottingham retained its Shire County rights - distinct from Nottinghamshire. The Local Government Act 1888 confirmed matters when Nottingham was nominated as a County Borough.

It was only with the changes introduced by the Local Government Act 1972 (operative from 1st April 1974) that Nottingham City came back under Nottinghamshire County. If anything Unitary status for the City has restored the status quo. I shall be considering how best to re-phrase the article to make reference to this over the next few days. The tenor of the 1449 Royal Charter can be interpreted to suggest that the City is and remains as distinct as County from Nottinghamshire as Derbyshire, Leicestershire or even Rutland etc. 80.42.172.216 (talk) 23:58, 5 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
