General Changes edit

There are a few issues with the changes recently made, which have been returned to their original form - primarily due to CPOV or editorialising. To give a few examples:-

- The Telegraph may well have strongly lauded Nile Gardiner as somebody who is apparently hugely influential in the US, and the Sunday Telegraph may have done likewise. However, as the Wiki page makes clear, he works for them...really that's something which should have been picked up

- The extent to which he advised Thatcher needs evidence which isn't from Gardiner himself. There's a difference between providing advice, and being an 'advisor', so that aspect needs to be beefed up - I'm not particularly pleased with the phrasing I've used, but we can't have somebody being the arbiter of whether they themselves were an 'advisor'

- A link has been added to support the point that he has an interest in the UN, and apparently was "one of the first" to call for an investigation into 'oil for food' schemes. This is a strange and unsupportable claim - and certainly not one supported by the link, which doesn't refer to 'being the first'. Regardless, we can't cover all areas he's written about - he's a general pundit who's spoken about a wide range of issues, but given his role in advising the hearings, I've left the section in, and removed the claim

- It's a little tricky to regularly quote his internet blog as a source for his underlying opinions, in that it has a strong entertainment element, but again I've left that in. However, it may be best to stick with 3 or 4 of the main issues he writes about, rather than expanding this section.

School/Background edit

Can someone put in some detail about Nile's education before 18? Where is he from in the UK? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.254.147.252 (talk) 17:22, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unification Church edit

Many blogs mention history of links with the Unification Church. But seem to insinuate this is a problem. Can someone add in a fair and balanced history of Nile's links to the Unification Church and how this may have influenced his political views in a positive manner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.145.143.64 (talk) 23:56, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Who IS he? edit

No discernable background, most references point back to his own articles. Might just as easily be a Russian bot. 31.88.125.38 (talk) 02:36, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is this just a puff piece? edit

This seems to be a puff piece with too many 'facts' without citations. 'Aide to Thatcher' - when? Being an aide to an elderly lady is very different to assisting a head of state. Psychademic (talk) 09:56, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Im not sure this person newsworthy, am I bring mean? edit

An aide to Margaret Thatcher? When she was in her 90s and a contractor for a few political campaigns is not newsworthy. Am I bring mean here? 2A00:23C8:A470:3101:498:E80E:753F:7063 (talk) 21:51, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

You don't have to be "newsworthy" to have a wiki entry - He is a long time political commentator on the media so they clearly value his opinion & experience.
What have you done? TheJean 01 (talk) 06:30, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Clearly others think the same judging by above. There is presumably a bar that needs to be reached to have one, this is definitely on the edge. For me, not there.
t a strange reply. This isn't a debate between the commenter and the subjec's deedst. It's about whether a subject alone is deserving of a wiki entry. I'm not surea few articlesin the media and a tenuous link to Thatcher is sufficient. 2.97.40.164 (talk) 06:54, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looking at Jean01 comments there is clearly a link to the subject. Only created to make comments on this piece.
This is a very odd wiki entry all round. 2.97.40.164 (talk) 06:57, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
So because somebody doesn't agree with you they are immediately "odd" - you are very arrogant indeed aren't you? I saw the subject on TV & decided to google him. It's social media in case you didn't realise, so I can make any comments I want. I suggest you check your Narcissism. TheJean 01 (talk) 07:32, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
At no point have I suggested you can't comment, "Jean". I have critiqued your comments, not banned you from commenting.
Having an account created to comment on an obvious puff piece is clearly odd. But it was the existence of this wiki entry itself I was describing as odd..not your comment. Your misunderstanding here seems revealing, but that is admittedly subjective.
The deeds under discussion and consideration are the subject's, not the commentator. I don't know why you keep trying to bring me into it.
If I was a narcissist perhaps I'd create my own wiki entry, like Mr Garnder has clearly done. I'm sure I had breakfast once with someone noteworthy, does that qualify?
I think there is something not quite right about people creating wiki profiles to make themselves look important. Apologies if that offends "Jean" but we have real social media for that type of thing. Wikipedia is for noteworthy facts, the world's encyclopedia..not a CV.
It's obvious others think the same, half the comments here are questioning why this person has a wiki entry. 2.97.40.164 (talk) 17:07, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Now you are just being weird, apart from your obsession with Mr Gardener, you have now take umbrage with me creating a wiki profile. - I'm so deeply sorry if you think it "not quite right" that I create a wiki profile. Maybe you should take it up with Wiki and tell them that it makes you uneasy that people take it upon themselves to create wiki profiles & suggest that they should listen to you, in all your infinite wisdom & that they should never again allow people to create wiki profiles.
Well, this has been fun. But I won't keep you I am sure there is plenty for you & your carer to debate in your basement. Take care & do keep taking the medication! 2A00:23C4:C008:8601:80D2:7F1B:C44:E2A1 (talk) 17:17, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
The attempt to personalise this is telling.
Yes I do think it's worth debating whether every tom, dick and harry should have a wiki entry. I couldn't care less about Niles Gardiner in particular and even after reading this have no opinion of him. I read the entry and immediately thought this is a puff piece. In the debate others do too. Fin.
Yes I am the obsessed one here, making a Wikipedia entry for a nobody is entirely normal behaviour. I'll get back to my basement now. Have you got anyone else lined up for stardom? My neighbor once had jam and toast for breakfast once. Quite something. 2.97.40.164 (talk) 20:02, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I see another person has cited this article for "non notability issues"..today. Precisely what wiki created the function and forum for. Not the abuse above.
Away back to my basement now. My carer once had tea and coffee on the same day all before noon. Article? 2.97.40.164 (talk) 20:26, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Age, Early Life Missing? edit

Why are these missing? Has he or somebody else removed them? And if so, Why? TheJean 01 (talk) 06:22, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
