Talk:New Birth/Archive 1

I think this page could (should?) be added to the Born again page as it seems to be another term for describing the same concept. Does anyone agree or disagree? Pyrofysh 12:50, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The New Birth is a distictively Wesleyan way of describing the born again experience and has a wealth of information in the Methodist tradition. The article was created in order to give room for that specific discussion. KHM03 (talk) 12:52, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
(I hope I am doing this right. I keep getting an error for php).
The New Birth is far more than just the way the Wesleys and Fletcher used to describe the conversion experience. It even predates them. John Wesley most likely was exposed to the New Birth concept during his reading of the Pietists at his time at Oxford and reinforced during his times with Zizendorf's Moravians. Wesley and his successors contribution to this doctrine is significant particularly when they redefinition as a type of experience in this life.
But the doctrine of the New Birth is not strictly a Wesleyan doctrine. This particular doctrine first found its roots in the work of Johann Arndt's True Christianity but taking form in Phillip Jakob Spener's Pia Desideria. Most major forms and branches of Pietism are generally seperated out by their interprettation of it. Commonly this is discussed in academia as wiedergeburt.
I would be glad to write on the area of the Pietists for this article but if someone could possibly provide guidance for me to do so, well I would greatly apprecriate it. My contact info is benjamin.finger@gmail.com .
