Names

edit

I have used the official name of NUIs Cork and Dublin, as links, in this article and the Irish Universities article as it is slighty confusing to have two alternate links to the same institution. Djegan 13:02, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Students

edit

Have removed 50,000 figure for students that was in table incase of incorrect implication of status of university - the university is a degree awarding university and not a teaching and research university. Rather the 50,000 are following courses at the various constituent universities and recognised colleges which will lead to university awards. Djegan 17:19, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Dissolvation of the the NUI

edit

I'm confused about the recent edits to this article. From reading the press release from the Department of Education and the news reports from The Irish Times and RTE news, it reads to me that the Minister of Education had announced his decision to dissolve the NUI on the 20th of January 2010. The actual dissolvation has not occurred yet - the NUI and it's member universities and colleges has only been told of the decision on the morning of the 20th, the bill to dissolve the NUI is still only in draft form and the new amalgamation of the existing qualification agencies has yet to be detailed. It's going to be at least several months, perhaps even a year or so, before the NUI is dissolved.

So the changes in the article that speak of the NUI in a past tense is a bit premature right now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by D Pernicious (talkcontribs) 15:18, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure that this ever happened. Bogger (talk) 17:17, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Motto

edit

The Motto's translation is wrong. There's no "strength" or "courage". Veritati is Latin for "truth" in dative case, Fír Fer (Fír with acute accent) is Old Irish for "men's truth" in the sense of "fair play". (Modern Irish fíor fear) -- MacCambridge (talk) 22:30, 21 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
