Birthplace correction?

He was born in Adelaide, not the NT. Much was made of this fact when the 2003 Brownlow was shared between Bucks, Goodes and Ricciuto - as all were Adelaide-born.

I have corrected this. There are many inaccuracies/assumptions made in this article including him being a Collingwood supporter. I think he supported either Geelong or Kangaroos (or neither perhaps he was that focused on making VFL/AFL). Thanks for the link anonymous individual! -

BTW I think his father was some sort of bank manager or something that had to travel from state to state for some reason.

Major contradiction

The most recent amendment to the State of Origin eligibility rules (1993) decreed that a player is tied to the state where he lived the longest between the ages of 10-17. Now as he is most certainly tied to NT/Allies he can't possibly have 'spent the majority of his football developing years (aged around 10-17) in South Australia so is widely regarded as a South Australian' could he?

Therefore strongly suggest this is edited.

Playing History

It is stated that Nathan Buckley won the Magarey and Jack Oatey Medals while playing for the Port Adelaide Magpies. This is not correct, in 1992 when these medals were won Nathan played for the Port Adelaide Football Club which was established in the 1800s. The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club came into being in 1997 after the Port Adelaide Football Club transferred into the AFL and became known as the Power so as not to conflict with the Collingwood Magpies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wallybeagle (talk • contribs) 12:45, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

No, the information is correct. Port Adelaide assume the Power name when playing in the AFL, because of the clash with Collingwood. However, the SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies were and have always been known as the Magpies. When Buckley won the 1992 SANFL Best and Fairest Medal (Magarey Medal)and the Best player in the Grand final (Jack Oatey Medal), he won them as a member of the SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies.

Substantial Bias/Original Research

This article contains substantial bias as well as huge amounts of original research. I am particularly referring to the Notable Matches section... statements like:

"The 2002 Grand Final will go down as perhaps Nathan Buckley's finest performance in the Collingwood jumper. On a sodden MCG, Buckley - and his Magpies - were superb, pushing the all-conquering Lions to the absolute limit, going down late in the last quarter by a mere nine points."

1) Who says they were superb (in fact, they werent; they lost the grand final - but that is another issue); and
2) There is no reference for this at all. A simple summary of Buckley's statistics (with references) and noting his Norm Smith medal would suffice.

Coach from 2012

Hey Guys, I pretty sure that Buckley will become senior coach for Collingwood from 2012 as part of a three year contact!

Yes, we know that Buckley has a three year contract that is due to start in 2012. I agree that it is very likely that Buckley will be the senior coach in 2012, however what if (horrible as this may sound) he's hit by a tram and dies tomorrow? I know that's pretty hyperbolic, but surely you can see the point that I (and, I think, a few other editors) have been trying to make in edit summaries. You may also wish to have a read of WP:CRYSTAL. It is ok, in my opinion, to add that Buckley is expected to start as senior coach in 2012 to the actual prose of the article, but to add succession boxes and to the infobox, when it is not 100% certain adds nothing to the article. SANFL games

Thejoebloggsblog added Buckley's SANFL games. As on AFL players I don't usually see state league games, I wanted to ask what is the consensus for this? The-Pope?

We've had this discussion a few times for various players and it's still a bit of grey area. IMO it's OK in this case because he wasn't on an AFL list at the time when he was at Port, so they weren't functioning as 'reserves' games. So I'm happy enough with Port being listed in the infobox, but wouldn't agree with his Williamstown stats (I know he played at least one game for them) being listed. If he had a significant career (he won the Magarey, didn't he?) then I'd be fine to add them. Generally would prefer an "all or none" approach, but have to agree that a couple of games in the reserves that happen to be a VFL/SANFL/WAFL team don't need to be listed.
