May need a rename edit

I'm not doubting the appropriateness of this topic, but it may be better at "Video game narrative" or something else. I don't know 100% sure, so I am only tossing the thought out there.

Also this history section definitely can look to a few of the other main VG articles to discuss the expansion/importance of story and growing budgets in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Masem (t) 13:57, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't particularly care one way or another if it's called "Video game narrative" or the current title, so if you think it should be moved, I'm fine with that.
To be clear, I assume that by "look to" the other main articles, you mean copy content and sources from the other articles, or link to them for additional context? I appreciate the suggestion either way, I'll probably end up doing both as the article is further expanded. silvia (inquire within) 15:59, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Not necessary copy but look at the information and the sources to pull from. If you do copy the wikitext, just make sure to include appropriate attribution (See WP:CWW) Masem (t) 16:11, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Word. I'll keep it in mind. silvia (inquire within) 16:12, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I thought the same thing, and then I got thinking, we already have Video game writing. Can this content just be merged there? It's nearly the same topic. TarkusABtalk/contrib 20:05, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've looked at that page, and it's clearly not the same topic at all. There's some overlap, sure, but Video game writing is about the profession and practice of writing scripts for video games. This article, meanwhile, is about the relevance of narrative to video games, and how the presentation of narratives has evolved and advanced as technology and attitudes towards video games as a medium have changed, which is its own distinct subject and one that outside this article doesn't seem to have much coverage on the project.
I suppose the two could be merged, but the resulting article would need to be re-scoped in order to cover both topics. silvia (inquire within) 20:14, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

One quick idea is that you should mention in depth where narrative is central, rather than a secondary aspect, which should include adventure games, interactive fiction, and walking simulators. Horror games may or may not fit here too. This isn't that other genres lack narrative, just that narrative is a key part of these genres. Also on those same lines, you may be able to point to metroidvanias as a design type that can help guide narrative in a game (all existing articles should have sourcing to help). --Masem (t) 20:58, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
