Excessive names edit

I removed the following string of overkill from the "names" category of the info box, and added a reference to the SIMBAD record, which has at least most of them. The note below was part of the string, in HTML comments.

names = NGC 246, GPM 11.763966-11.871916, PLX 152, RE J004703-115211, BD-12 134, GSC2 S0033000111, PMN J0047-1152, 2RXF J004703.4-115214, BPS CS 31062-0003, GSC 05272-01890, PN VV' 7, 1RXS J004703.1-115217, CCDM J00471-1152AB, HIC 3678, PN ARO 43, TD1 31081, CSI-12-00445, HIP 3678, PN VV 4, TYC 5272-1890-1, 2E 0044.5-1208, IDS 00420-1225, PN G118.8-74.7, UBV 644, 2E 178, IRAS 00445-1207, 2RE J0047-115, UBV M 5351, 2EUVE J0047-11.8, MCT 0044-1208, 2RE J004704-115215, UCAC2 27592055, EUVE J0047-11.8, PHL 829, RE J004702-115145, uvby98 610160829, GEN# -0.01200134, PK 118-74 1, RE J0047-115, WD 0044-121, Skull Nebula

Merge BD-12° 134 here? edit

There's a long-standing suggestion to merge BD-12° 134 into this article. That seems to make sense, but I can't discover whether the BD item refers to the nebula or the central star (HIP 3678), both, or neither. (The SIMBAD entry for NGC 246 lists BD-12 134 as an associated ID, but it also lists HIP 3678.) The coords given at BD-12° 134 appear to match the ones given here for the nebula, but the info box appears to refer to a star (and the link to SIMBAD there gives a completely different location, CD-58 3527 in the eta Car nebula). -- Elphion (talk) 21:54, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Comment - further comment is needed to tell whether a merge is necessary, perhaps informing a relevant topical WikiProject is the way to go. Quasihuman | Talk 18:01, 1 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Pac-Man? edit

I’m not sure what amateur astronomers refer to this as the Pac-Man nebula. NGC 281 is far more commonly referred to as the Pac-Man nebula, because the nebulosity resembles that characteristic circular shape with a wedge cut out. It even has an eye!

I think we should remove the notation that this is known as the Pac-Man nebula. I don’t see that reference among my local astronomy club or in the online community. Cecomp64 (talk) 17:13, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
