Notability

edit

Under what grounds is this article notable? What legal precedent did this set? What differs her murder from the hordes of murders a day or a week in NY itself? Nothing links into this page other than 2 other persons with doubtful notability. And furthermore, it's attempt to be notable is seen with the tacking on of yet another psychiatrist-patient relations gone bad. Lihaas (talk) 13:53, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

After seeing your comments, I added a link to the AfD for this article. (My involvement with this article is only as someone who happened upon the AfD, participated in the discussion, and subsequently kept the article on my watchlist.)
Since the crime happened only 8 months ago, it's still too early for it to have created legal precedents or other long-term precedents, but the sense in the AfD discussion was that the crime had broader implications. IMO, this should become part of a broader article about the topic of violent crime against mental health workers, but it doesn't look like anyone has undertaken to write that broader article. Another item to address in that context would be the 2005 murder of Marty Smith in Washington, which led to state legislation. (See this SEIU webpage, this second SEIU webpage, and this State of Washington webpage.) --Orlady (talk) 15:22, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I slapped on a clean up tag in the hope that something can show it's notability. Even is legislation per se hasn't happened, there must be some advocacy for change. In this sense an advocacy that comes from more than just debate and discussion. (of which the cited "debates" comes from just on local source, which in turn further fuels notability) Lihaas (talk) 11:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
