Neutrality?

edit

Much of the article was clearly taken from a blurb for the school that was also posted at http://www.navigetter.com/navigetter.php#detail%264081. With the demise of the school, claims about the school's philosophy and practices became less relevant and I felt OK about removing them. I'd like to see the neutrality dispute resolved and the banner removed, but I'll wait for others to agree (or not). Somewhat Agree (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

edit

As I was revising this page, I had a number of questions that I couldn't resolve given the materials easily available to me (that is, web pages). These include:

My wife is an alumna. Here are her answers to guide you or any other editor
  1. What was the school's relationship to Canisius? When did it move to their campus? Where on their campus?
That has come about since she went there in the early 1970s. When, exactly, she doesn't know. She came back from a visit to Buffalo this weekend and was not happy about the impact of the move on the neighborhood (where she used to live).

The school has not moved; Canisius bought the property. She suggests seeing if Canisius has anything about this on their site. Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

  1. Where were its previous locations?
She says the grammar school was in some of Medaille's buildings until 1978. The high school building is the original 1891 building. Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. Was the high school a clearly separate unit in a separate building?
Yes. Canisius tore down the high school's new wing.
  1. Did the school offer K and pre-K when it first opened? The original article only said that it offered classes "through grade 12".
Probably not back in 1891, but they were doing it by the 1970s, she says.
  1. I have inferred that the sisters said in 2005 that they were going to close the school, but they agreed to sever their relationship to the school instead when parents stepped up. Is that accurate?
Yes. Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. How involved were the sisters in running the school between the 1980s and 2005? Was there any relationship between the sisters and the school after it closed?
That she doesn't know. The sisters were getting older, and dying off, during that period. There was no relationship post-closing since all the sisters' property has been sold off. Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. In what sense was the school Catholic after 2005? In philosophy only, or was there an official relationship to the Church? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mlcommon (talkcontribs) 02:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
She doesn't know. Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. Can anybody add a paragraph about who the parents were, why they did what they did, where they got the money, what their role was in running the school after 2005, and what their role was in deciding to close the school?
See if you can find that in the Buffalo News archives.
  1. Did the school close with much debt? Will the sale of the building likely cover the debt? Will it have to declare bankruptcy (or has it already)?
My wife's guess is that the sisters who were left probably just donated the property to Canisius, Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. Does the school have any famous graduates who ought to be mentioned? Any special achievements? Any special recognition from anybody?
It wasn't the top tier of Buffalo's Catholic schools, she thinks, so it might not even have had some locally famous alumni (she went on to Nardin, which does have some notable alumnae like Diane English. Daniel Case (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Addendum: Here's the school's website's history page as of 2009, from archive.org. Daniel Case (talk) 01:40, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
