Monte Sano Mountain's Name Origin
editMonte Sano Mountain's Name Origin: The Alabama Registry of Historical Places states that the name,"Monte Sano", is a Spanish term (not Italian, as this article states). Also, the Registry documents the use of the mountain as a place of healing and recovery for malaria-stricken soldiers upon their return from the Spanish-American War; hence the use of a Spanish, rather than English or Native American, nomenclature.
