The Simpsons edit
I haven't seen the episode, but it doesn't seem likely that "Mondo Frowno" on The Simpsons was a reference to Mondo 2000. There have been many other things called Mondo. Mporter 12:34, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- On the contrary, it's not only "likely", it's a clear and obvious homage to Mondo 2000 given the font and lettering of the masthead in "Homerpalooza" (1996), which is virtually identical to Mondo 2000 mastheads from the early 1990s. This cannot be confused with any other magazine of the 1990s, so it must refer to Mondo 2000. In the episode, the lettering of the "Mondo" in Mondo Frowno is meant to specifically refer to Bart Nagel's design of the "Mondo" in Mondo 2000 because of the use of early computer graphics in a masthead which are found in both. (Compare: [1][2]) It's also notable that the magazine was sold at "Suicide Notes", which was an alternative music and poster shop. When I used to purchase Mondo 2000 in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was carried by Tower Records, and placed in the alternative section of their magazine rack. Seriously dude, the homage does not get any more obvious than this so saying this is "unlikely" is pretty ridiculous. It's not just likely, it's a deliberate and intentional homage to Bart Nagel's design made popular by Mondo 2000. Viriditas (talk) 01:20, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
