Player infoboxes edit

Users Blahblah32blahblah and Spanneraol have removed information on teams for the player infoboxes that accompany the mini-biographies in this article. The rationale seems to be that there's some kind of guideline that says that minor league teams shouldn't be shown in infoboxes. First, where is this guideline? I haven't seen it. Second, while such a guideline seems useful for major league players to avoid cluttering their infoboxes, it doesn't seem to be a helpful rule for articles on minor league players. Presumably readers come to articles on minor league players to learn about them, and I don't see how deleting information on their minor league teams is going to help the reader. (When I look up a minor league player, it's one of the first things I look at--how long has he been playing and how rapidly is he ascending to higher classes?) So if there is such a guideline, I think it's counterproductive for these minor league player articles. So, I'd like to make an exception to the general rule for minor league players on the grounds that providing such information would be consistent with Wikipedia's main goal of communicating encyclopedic information. I would expect that such an exception already exists. You're absolutely correct that including minor league teams is entirely appropriate for prospects. Powers T 14:13, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
The issue of minor league teams being listed in info boxes came up on the project talk page about a year or so ago and it was decided that the info boxes were for Major League info only... that is they mention the Major League team that the player is attached to and the uniform number should only be mentioned if they are on the 40 man roster. All minor league player articles tend to follow that format except the ones creates by Johnny Spasm.. A change to this standard should probably be discussed back on the project page rather than here so that more people can participate. Spanneraol (talk) 15:53, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I opened a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball#Infoboxes for minor league players per your suggestion. By the way, maybe I watch an unusual set of minor league player articles, but I have to disagree with your assertion that all minor league player articles omit the minor league teams except for those created by Johnny Spasm. I've seen several other minor league player articles that include a list of minor league teams in infoboxes. BRMo (talk) 04:11, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't sure whether I should take offense to that comment or not. Anyway, it's useful information. Isn't that what Wikipedia is for? I don't see why the article wouldn't have that information.--Johnny Spasm (talk) 10:39, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

There haven't been many comments at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball#Infoboxes for minor league players, but the few that have come in are favorable to showing minor league teams on infoboxes of minor league players and no one has objected. So I'm going to interpret it as support. BRMo (talk) 00:03, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
