Odd story

The article states "From 2003 through 2005, $14.7 billion in crop subsidies went to the congressional districts of members on the House Committee on Agriculture, an analysis by the non-partisan Environmental Working Group found. That was 42.4% of the total subsidies." The source is a USA Today story from 2007. The story gives a breakdown and does indeed list Conaway on the committee and says that district 11 received $322 million. This is odd because the lead says Conaway has been in the House since 2005. Ah, I see, he was elected in 2004 and took office in 2005. According to Fed News Service, he was appointed to the Agriculture Committee in January 2005. Rgr09 (talk) 15:39, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

I have some second thoughts. The figures were added by an anonymous IP editor the day after the story in USA Today came out. This editor added information from the EWG report to the biographies of the top 15 representatives on the EWG list, except for Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. On the other hand, it was also added for Tim Holden, even though he came in at number 39, with a measly $17 million. Of these edits, the only ones apparently now surviving are on Conaway's page and Jerry Moran's page. Perhaps this was not regarded as especially notable by other editors. The report itself seems to have some flaws. Number 1 on the list is Adrian Smith of Nebraska's 3rd district, with his district receiving $1.74 billion in subsidies. The problem with this is that Adrian Smith was not elected until 2006. The "analysis" seems to have added up totals for each district for 2003-2005 and then stuck the names of the current committee members in front of them.

Given the questionable nature and ephemeral notability of this item, I'll remove it here and on Moran's page. If you disagree, please feel free to reinstate the information for all 46 of the representatives on the EWG list (why pick on Conaway?) and leave me a note here explaining why this had anything to do with Adrian Smith. Arbusto position?

The article lists Conaway as chief financial officer for Arbusto Energy. This claim appears in several articles, but none of them seems to have a reference for it. Does anyone know a source for this? Rgr09 (talk) 17:37, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Garrett Kushner Inquiry got hot

Nunes later stepped aside from the probe amid Ethics Committee scrutiny over his handling of classified information — an issue he dismissed as a partisan smear campaign.

Since then, Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) has handled the probe, and tensions on the committee had largely cooled. Until now.

Removed trivia

Nothing trivial about it. A sitting congressman, and author of the House Intelligence Report on Russian interference in the 2016 election no less, pretending not to know about the Helsinki Summit and showing no interest in finding out about the summit is definitely due, and was of course deemed notable enough by RS to mention it. This is the same man who led the House Intel Committee on Russian interference in the 2016 election, authoring a ludicrous report which contradicted the intel community's assessment.
