The name's wrong
editWell, this is embarrassing! The name's wrong - it was the Middle East Centre for ARAB Studies, not Arabic. The idea was for students to learn about Arab culture and society as well as the language.
FWIW, it was mostly aimed at FCO staff - the whole 'Spy school' thing was started by Kemal Jumblatt. Although there's little doubt spies (George Blake being the infamous one and something of a canard trotted out every time someone wants to substantiate the spy charge) did attend the school, it wasn't by any means an MI6 operation, but an FCO one.
if nobody's got any objections, I'll update this in the next few days... Alexandermcnabb (talk) 11:30, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
It seems there were objections.... Jezza (talk) 14:56, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
