What are the chord maps of the various devices? --Treekids (talk) 23:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Co-inventor Chris Rainey has this stuff on his Web page. He may allow us to copy it over here. Bidmead (talk) 18:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Copies of the Microwriter manuals are at the Cambridge (UK) Centre for Computing History

Microwriter vs MW4

edit

Photo attached of the original microwriter together with an MW4. The original has the same footprint but is higher and made as a vacuum-formed cover rather than an ABS injection moulding. It is white rather than brown/yellow. The photos were taken by me and may be copied freely to this wikipedia entry without issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.5.215.7 (talk) 13:04, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

The black markings on the older model are due to plasticiser that leached out of the vinyl carry case. The machine had welded itself into the case. The D-type connector on the near end is 9 pin only.

Quinkey

edit

Quinkey redirects here with no explanation in the article. Can we mention what bearing Quinkey has on this technology? Unfortunately I don't know. 81.151.13.199 19:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Aha! OK - I found this: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/themicrouser/reviews/hardware/quinkey.htm - it appears that a Microwriter keyboard was made without all of the electronics to interface to the BBC Micro. Very interesting! Why did they call it 'quinkey' when it has six button?!? Well, anyway - the Quinkey link to this article does now start to make some sense. We need to write something about this spin-off device. SteveBaker 01:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have a quinkey. It came with an adapter for the BBC Micro that connected up to 4 quinkeys at once. There is almost nothing inside a quinkey, just a resistor network. The switches and the resistor network feed a voltage to the BBC Micro which is dependent on the combination of switches pressed, and the result is read by the BBC Micro's ADC input. 82.5.215.7 (talk) 13:00, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Douglas Adams

edit

"The Microwriter was an innovative product, and was endorsed by writer Douglas Adams." Does anyone have evidence for this? I knew Douglas at the time, and I'm pretty sure I never saw him with a Microwriter. I was a keen AgendA fan and user, and this is certainly something we would have discussed.
