Hi, I made some massive cuts because a lot of this article was massively POV and certainly unverifiable. Unless someone can show me a source documenting the internal motivation of this guy in high school 30 years ago, I think it needs to stay out. This article really had the tone of a promotional brochure or a vanity page. We should stick to verifiable facts. --Deville (Talk) 18:01, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is nonetheless significant that Capellas moved from CIO to CEO. This is something that rarely happens and represents something of a success for the idea of Information Technology as a good career. Several things should be brought to bear:

1. Compaq was very much an I.T. oriented company. In other words, a CIO makes a good CEO because the target customer of the Compaq was CIOs

2. That Capellas was more successful than his predecessor has been vindication to technical types who feel that technical subject matter expertise the measure of a good IT executives

3. That Capellas was successful as the President should also to technical types of the importance for technical types to understand the business of their business and to run IT from that perspective.

Compaq edit

Need to add a few syllables about why Rosenthal was removed as CEO at Compaq and replaced with Capellas, as hinted at in the preceding comments. It's important in describing what Capellas had to offer, and how he dealt with the impact of the acquisition of Digital Equipment by Compaq under Rosenthal. The deal had a dramatic effect on Compaq and its business direction (more services and software oriented, if nothing else).

I also rephrased some hype/POV (i.e. Capellas fell in love with computers) and rearranged some material for more logical flow. --NameThatWorks 17:43, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

HP edit

I added a couple of references to Carly Fiorina in regard to the acquisition of Compaq by HP, since she and Capellas personally concocted the deal and their personal dynamics are important. Perhaps someone with more insight can flesh out the six-month period during which Michael remained as a second-fiddle "president" under CEO Carly. My recollection is that he grew a beard, traveled around, and played the guitar at company social functions. This would be part of his personal and professional profile and the interpersonal dynamics between the two. --NameThatWorks 17:43, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trivia edit

This is the worst "trivia" list I've seen in awhile. It needs to be deleted entirely. --NameThatWorks 17:43, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
