Largest municipality edit

What does this mean?

Miagao the largest municipality in the country with a total of 119 barangays.

There are municipalities just within Iloilo province that are more populous and cover a larger area. Does this mean that Miagao has a larger number of barangays than any other municipality? --Mattroyal 11:27, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Real name of the town edit

The town's name is "MIAG-AO". There is no town in my province called MIAGAO. --User:Johnbrillantes

Most places I see it listed as Miagao - the jeepneys, UP Visayas Miagao campus, the newspapers, addresses. Next time I am out there I will have to see what is written on the city hall and library. Perhaps Miag-ao is an older, soon-to-be outdated version. -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bruce Hall (talkcontribs)

Sorry I forgot to sign my previous comment. "Miagao" is the more common spelling, at least in my experience. Perhaps it is incorrect but languages change and at some point often what was once incorrect becomes the correct version. On this website -- http://www.miagao.gov.ph/ -- the town is called "Miagao". That's also the way it is listed on the seal on the site. --Bruce Hall (talk) 15:32, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Move to "Miagao" edit

After reviewing Wikipedia:Article titles I think that the Article Title should be Miagao. Specifically, the guidelines say, "The most common name for a subject, as determined by its prevalence in reliable English-language sources, is often used as a title because it is recognizable and natural....Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." Miagao is almost universally used. It would be hard to find a source that uses Miag-ao. Even the municipal government uses Miagao. This is from their website: "© Municipality of Miagao | All rights reserved." --Bruce Hall (talk) 14:45, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Miag-ao Church edit

Joanner, could you expound the text about Miag-ao church and make this a dedicated article instead? There are lots of information available about the history and architecture of Miag-ao church, and they could be placed on a dedicated article. Thanks! Joelaldor (talk) 08:35, 15 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Miag-ao, IloiloMiagao – Both the WP:COMMONNAME or common spelling AND the OFFICIAL NAME of the municipality is Miagao as evidenced by the official municipal seal found in its website. This spelling is also supported by this historical marker at the town's Santo Tomas de Villanueva Church. RioHondo (talk) 14:04, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
