Potential conflicts of interest

edit

See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.

In accordance with the Conflict of Interest guidelines, I'm declaring that I work for Metaswitch. I believe that my edits are non-controversial. Zirion (talk) 06:36, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I, too, am a Metaswitch employee. I may make non-trivial changes to this article in a bid to improve it, although I intend to maintain NPOV, and make a point of citing any material I change or add. If you believe a change I've made is due to a conflict of interest, please revert it and discuss the matter here. I'd appreciate being notified of such acts on my talk page, too. me_and (talk) 10:47, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Citations

edit

I'm trying to add and update the article citations, to ensure that all content has at least one cited source. For speed and ease I'm currently relying primarily on the Metaswitch website, which means a lot of self-published citations. I don't think any will be controversial, but I want to point this out explicitly anyway. I hope to add secondary sources at some point, but this is a lesser priority for me. me_and (talk) 16:21, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Remaining tasks on this (This list is being maintained and acted upon by me_and; that doesn't mean you can't help, though!):

  • Fix up dead links.
    • I've not managed to fix the The Deal link after a moderate amount of effort. I'm leaving it as a dead link for now per WP:ROT, but I anticipate replacing that citation with one that gives the same information as part of the below tasks.
  • Check all the citations contain the claimed information.
  • Add citations for uncited information, or remove the claims.
  • Break out the Best Companies award citations to individual citations for each award, primarily to permit easier archiving with WebCite. Do not add each with individual ref tags, just have multiple citations within the one. Due to the way the Best Companies site uses Javascript to build its pages, the individual lists can't be cited directly (or at least I can't find a way to do so). I'll add an access date to the citation template to list when I've verified that the citation contains the claimed information, and we'll just have to hope there's no link rot. If there is link rot, the article might need to reference Metaswitch's claim to the awards and try and find hard-copy references.
  • Try and add additional citations for awards currently only listing the Metaswitch website as a source. I don't personally think that page is unduly self-serving, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.
    • I've not been able to find a source for the Broadband Gears Diamond award other than the Metaswitch website.
    • I've now added additional citations for all the awards for which I've been able to find them. I think the awards section could do with revisiting/trimming/updating, though. me_and 20:01, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm now no longer working on these items. me_and 20:01, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Match Carrier Systems Division to primary source

edit

{{Request edit}}

I'd like to replace the current text in Metaswitch#Carrier Systems Division with the below. I think this is more useful than the current text, and I've also been readily able to find a citation for it. My conflict of interest is noted above.

If someone could agree the below text and copy-paste it in over the current paragraph in that section, I'd be grateful. If you don't think it's appropriate, please let me know.

The Carrier Systems Division develops and sells a range of [[softswitch]] and [[IP Multimedia Subsystem]] products, including a suite of telephony applications (MetaSphere), web-based user interfaces for telephony systems (CommPortal) and a management interface (MetaView).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.metaswitch.com/carrier-systems/default.aspx|title=Carrier Systems|work=Metaswitch|publisher=Metaswitch Networks|archiveurl=http://www.webcitation.org/5pwLqaTdt|archivedate=2010-05-23}}</ref>

Company name

edit

As an employee, I know the company is commonly known as Metaswitch. Looking at the company's website, you can verify this for yourself: most references to the company use "Metaswitch" rather than "Metaswitch Networks". Nonetheless, I can't find a good source for the fact that the company is commonly Metaswitch, not Metaswitch Networks, that wouldn't fall afoul of WP:SYN. Any help? me_and (talk) 23:01, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've asked for advice on this at Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard#Metaswitch_company_name. me_and 20:02, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Based on that discussion, and the fact that the name is unlikely to be challenged on account of it being fairly blatantly true, I've removed the {{citation needed}} tag. Static link to the discussion: [1]. me_and 11:19, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Update

edit

Hi, I noticed that the Metaswitch article was really out of of date with the products and rewards the company received. I tried updating it but it was seen as promotional, how would be a better way to update it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:9:4880:2A7:BCA3:30A7:5295:9DE3 (talk) 16:21, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

The trick is to make sure you're well versed in how to edit Wikipedia. I'd recommend Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with close associations as a starting place to read. —me_and 15:53, 9 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
