Disputed name Messehallen vs Messe Hamburg

Dear @Evangp:, cc: @AltSylt:, Yes, it's colloquially called "Messehallen" or "Messe" by locals and there is a subway station named "Messehallen" nearby. The same is probably true for folks in kassel, magdeburg, berlin, Schnelsen (also in Hamburg!), essen, köln, bremen, dortmund, and düsseldorf. No surprise, since its just the generic german word for "fair hall".

As I wrote in my move comment: I'm convinced that the official name is "Hamburg Messe" for the following reasons:

• The picture in the article shows the name "Hamburg Messe" over the entrance. Further pictures can be found on Commons or Google Streetview.
• Official (white) street signs around it say "Messe | CCH".
• The operating company is called "Hamburg Messe GmbH".

Please provide proof for your claim that the convention center in Hamburg is actually called "Messehallen" (beyond Hamburg city-limits), and no: a simple comment "REAL" doesn't really help. --Aeroid (talk) 12:57, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

My ask of you is even simpler. I understand that you claim that this convention center is somehow officially called "Messehallen". Please provide some proof to back up your claim. I have lived across the street for many years and have not see anything beyond the sign of the subway station with the name "Messehallen", but would be happy to be proven wrong. --Aeroid (talk) 16:30, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Hamburg Messe central entrance

comment: i don't care if enwiki names the article "Hamburg Messe", "Hamburg convention center", "Messehallen (Hamburg)", or else. But "Messehallen" only does not make sense. It is a generic term like town hall/Rathaus (the reason why we have Hamburg Rathaus, Rathaus Schöneberg etc). "Messehallen" is not specific to Hamburg. We have dozens of Messehallen in Germany. @Evangp: Thanks for your point of view, I disagree that this would be a reason to have this article. If you agree that we have a dispute in this interpretation, I kindly ask that you revert back your change an leave my proposal deletion where it was. Following your reasoning these tickets would be a basis to create an article for ...

... "Theatre" describing a building in New Orleans, instead we have Civic Theatre (New Orleans)

... "Sporthalle" describing another building in Hamburg, instead we have Alsterdorfer Sporthalle

"Hamburg Messehallen" or "Messehallen Hamburg" are names that are used as well for this location. But the current name is, as the picture says "Hamburg Messe", so my suggestion would be a simple note "(also known as Messehallen Hamburg)" on Hamburg Messe and deletion of this.--Aeroid (talk) 16:27, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
