Those who entered first grade at the Mary T. Ronan School in 1938, did so one year after the Bradstreet Avenue School and had been renamed in honor of Ms Ronan, who had served for many years as its principal.

There was an unpaved playground with a chain link fence on the Crest Avenue side of the school.

Students attended grades one through five and then shifted to the Julia Ward Howe School on Crescent Avenue for sixth grade; they came back to the MTR School for seventh and eighth grades, and then on to Revere High School for grades nine through twelve.

The gym of the school had a very low ceiling and no bleachers. Its interior was dominated by a wide staircase that led up to the principal's office and the two grade- seven and two grade-eight classrooms. Grades one through five on the first floor provided just one classroom for each grade.
