Talk:Mary Stewart, Countess of Buchan

In 1444 Mary Stewart was created the 1st Countess of Buchan ? edit

In the article it says: "Also in 1444, Mary was created the 1st Countess of Buchan." There is no direct reference for this statement. In John Burke's "A General and Heraldic Dictionary of the Peerage and Baronetage of the British Empire, Volume 1", on page 170 (Google Books) names of the Eals/Countesses of Buchan are listed, but no Mary Stewart or Wolfert VI van Borselen are mentioned. Also her being the 1st Countess of Buchan is contradicted in the book by the listing of numerous earlier Eals/Countesses of Buchan even before 1308, when John Cumyn is mentioned as third Earl of Buchan. I'm not saying it's impossible, but a source is needed to support the statement of Mary Stewart being the first Countess of Buchan. Also, if she was the Countess of Buchan, who inherited the title ? Did it fall to her husband Wolfert VI van Borselen, and his successors ? That would also be contradicted by Burke's Peerage, or not ? Regards, --OSeveno (talk) 20:55, 14 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
