I have looked everywhere I can think of - on the web and in encyclopaediae - to find a detailed biography of Martin Thornton, and have come up completely blank. As well, I own several of his books, but they are extremely sketchy in personal details, so I have put out this stub in the hope of stimulating a little collective research about a remarkable person.

Susan Fiore, on Amazon.com, writes this review of A Joyful Heart which beautifully captures Thornton's spirit:

A Joyful Heart is subtitled Meditations for Lent, but far from being somber, it's pure fun. Martin Thornton addresses the serious issues of being Christian by looking at some surprising things: woodlice, a girl who comes to mass in Truro Cathedral in a bikini. And he has a surprising take on these, expressed with a wonderful sense of humor. Do your heart good and read this slim volume.
