Criticism

I'm neither a Liverpool resident nor an architectural expert, but I know that this development has been controversial and attracted considerable criticism, particularly for its impact on the cityscape viewed from Albert Dock. The article would be improved if a suitably qualified editor could add a section on this criticism, maintaining NPOV of course. --Ef80 (talk) 13:45, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

No, that was more likely to have been the Fourth Grace project, which was the one before this one. I don't remember that much criticism of this, though there was some; I think it was seen as a bit of a relief, after the last idea...Swanny18 (talk) 20:07, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Ef80 is right – The Mann Island development as it currently stands has divided opinion in Liverpool (I should know, I live there). The local press took a certain delight in having it nominated for the 2012 Carbuncle Cup , and I've often heard it nicknamed the "Darth Vader building" by people in town. --Zarino (talk) 18:18, 21 Oct 2012 (UTC)

Building names and uses

Might it be useful to mention the three buildings' names, and their uses? Building 1 is called the Latitude building and Building 2 is the Longitude building. Connecting the two is a double-height glass atrium called Equator House which often hosts RIBA architectural displays and launch events for the Open Eye Gallery next-door. Both Latitude and Longitude are mixed commercial and residential spaces, with restaurants, cafés and galleries on the ground floor, and accommodation starting on the 2nd floor (there's a gap in the 1st floor, that was originally meant to be a mezzanine for the commercial spaces below, but has recently been suggested as potential office space). Both buildings have two levels or car-parking beneath, which is shared between residents and Merseyrail staff. The 3rd building is called "No 1 Mann Island" and is occupied almost entirely by Merseytravel. --Zarino (talk) 18:30, 21 Oct 2012 (UTC)

Background

A lot of the information in the Background section relates to the "Fourth Grace" project, and would be better placed in that article, with just a summary and link here. What this article could do with is some more detail about the present buildings (as mentioned above). If there are no objections I will do that in a couple of days. Thanks; I've gone ahead and moved it. I've also added new section on the buildings themselves, and have taken the liberty of adding the detail you gave (above) to it: I hope you don't mind.
