Mahshahr massacre → Mahshahr Killings – As I searched, the term "massacre" is not supported by RS and this killing is not described by massacre" with RSes, while Mahshahr Killings is. Saff V. (talk) 09:08, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Another look

I'm also looking at the sources and I also don't find strong evidence that "massacre" is WP:COMMONNAME. Many of the most reliable sources don't use it, including Washington Post[1], and New York Times[2]. In fact, Telluride quoted the NYT article as supporting the usage of the term massacre, but I don't see the article using that term anywhere (maybe I missed it?). Other major reliable sources that use "killing"/"killed", but don't use "massacre", include Guardian[3], Al-Jazeera[4], BBC News[5]. Reuters uses both "killings" and "massacre" in its article[6]. These events are old enough that they have now entered scholarly writing. They are described by Revolution and Dictatorship, published by Princeton University Press (page 246), which also doesn't describe them as "massacre" but rather uses the terms "killed" and "killing". Another scholarly source is The Rise of Digital Repression published by Oxford University Press (page 22-23) and again it doesn't use the word "massacre", but does use the word "killing". The term "massacre" is a WP:POVTITLE and hence "killing" would be preferred.VR _talk 06:18, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
